So I want to get a nice 4 or 6 hole carrier. What size compartments should I get for my Jersey woolies?

8 x 10 or 6 x 12 for a 4 hole?

or on the 6 hole 4 - 8 x 10 and 2 - 8 x 8 compartments. That gives me 4 SR holes and 2 JR holes.
Any suggestions and other places to look would be appreciated.

Still looking at cages. :)

__________ Sun Oct 07, 2012 10:36 pm __________

Also looking into a grooming table and then I think that is it. :)

I wouldn't go any larger than a 4 hole carrier myself. When I first started showing and hadn't ever had to pack them much I thought the larger the better but now I've been to a few shows were their wasn't room for carts and I would much rather have to make multiple trips to bring the rabbits in than carrying one large carrier. I would suggest Klubertanz a reasonable source for either of those items. If your interested though I would be more than willing to tell you how and show the different types I have built.

Please do share. And thank you for the advice. I didn't consider space at the show. Im used to carrying big bulky stuff from showing horses. But if I can't bring it in then what good is it. I would like to make my own but how to do the trays figures is my concern.
I am sure many will be happy to learn how you make yours. :)

I agree with the 4 hole carrier, thats big enough! I prefer 3 holes myself but that could because i tend to carry around large , wiggly , heavy rabbits. :x

At the show this past weekend i got a new carrier from Bogan's cage and supply, they have grest prices, and very good quality, i like the carrier from them better than the one i got from klubertanz.
Heres their link if you want it....

Thanks for the link. Do you mind posting a pic of your carrier? Please!!! :) My jesrey woolys are soon to be mobile!!!!
Then SHOWS here we come!!!!!

Now is the small going to be big enough for my Jersey woolys? That would be nice since none of them weigh over 3 pounds.

I just got two three hole carriers for my FWs and they're 6" x 12" total dimensions 18" x 12" perfect size for six pound rabbits, tons of room for JWs

I'm going to have to measure mines now. I got it at a show from martins cages. It's big enough for the Silver Foxes to turn around. Go the pretty blue, I'm going to pick up a pink one this time, for does and bucks.

Just a note, I would got a little bigger on carriers for a wooled breed. One thing I learned this weekend, is that the wool rubbing on metal carrier sides can cause mats to form. I was advised to get single hole carriers for them, but at least a larger carrier would be better.

Yeah I can't go single but can get one with solid dividers. :)

Oh and unfortunately I'm not close to any shows so I have to order off the internet for now.

__________ Mon Oct 08, 2012 2:33 pm __________

What about Bogan Cages stacking cages? Are they well built?

I got the 16 x 24 3 hole regular and it held some VERY large new zealands that a friend of mine bought. She also barrowed it to take them home so it will be a few days b4 i can get youa pic of it!!

Shipping on my carrier from klubertanz was around the high 20's like $25 er so, im not sure if that helps you to compare shipping or not....

The stacking cages they had at the show looked nice and sturdy, if I had hda the xtra cash I would have bought a 24x24 two hole stacker, but I used all my money !! lol
The ones at the show came with trays included...

Id go with as few holes as you can. a few 5-10 pound rabbits and your trying to deal with a 60 pound or more cage.

Shipping is always a big factor in everything, especially something as bis as a carrier. I think Bass has the best prices for shipping, but probably the lowest quality for carriers.

Klubertanz has a carrier I like and shipping is $20. So that's where im likely going. I would make my own if I could get the tray and hardware cheaper locally.

__________ Tue Oct 09, 2012 7:50 am __________

Fishdip I have small 3 pound jersey woolys to show. Other than that I have meat mutts. They don't go anywhere but the freezer. Lol
I think ill get one four hole for now. And get a two hole later on.

I understand about the tray. By the time I get the tray I could pay for a ready made carrier.

__________ Tue Oct 09, 2012 5:45 pm __________

MSD does have a thread where she made a carrier from the cement mixing pans.

I do! :)

But- the cement mixing tubs are bulky, and the cost was the same for a four hole carrier at the show. I may order the trays and have them delivered to a show at some point. :hmm:
