Mary Ann, if it stunk like that there are probably two problems- it is too wet, and there is too much high nitrogen material in it. The stuff that has a lot of nitrogen is your grass clippings, bunnyberries, basically anything green. The wood chips will balance that out. Dry leaves and straw will help too. Wood ashes and lime will help with the smell and also change the ph of the pile.

If you have all your lawn clippings dumped there, the smell was probably where you broke into that lawn clippings dont compost well by themselves ,they sour and rot, terrible odor inside of it, they compost when mixed with brown,,

mix the wood chips with the grass as you cut it and you will make wonderul compost. then the more often you turn a pile, the faster you make compost

Okay, enough of the talk about turds, shavings, grass clippings, and how they rot in harmony and concert with one another.

Week 3, they're eating solid feed now. A couple of them have taken to ruling the world from the Fine-X Feeder:

On a sad note, one of the white babies died this afternoon. I found him dead in the cage this evening. Not sure what happened, but as you folks can imagine, my "concern meter" is coming back to life.

Thanks, reeree!

Another thing I noticed today. I still have all 6 Cal satin babies, and just 3 whites. I guess all the losses have been whites. :(

I second that, Miss M!

We may all be blinded, but it is a risk I am willing to take...
