I was checking does this morning and saw a small streak of blood on one of the does. I picked her up and found a small amount of blood around the vulva where the hairline begins. The blood was not from the vulva and I saw no abrasions in that area. I checked her anus and saw blood at the hairline around the anus and also on the soft tissue going into the anus. I pulled her tail back a bit farther and the blood was definitely inside the anus but it didn't look like a bleeding abrasion. I took a pic but it's hard to really see.

She did not seem to be in pain or bothered. She wasn't licking the area at all. The blood seemed a bit on the orange side, not bright red or dark red.

Any ideas?

did she ingest something not supposed like a chunk of toy or something could have scratched as it passed. Only thing I can really think of, you have been doing this long enough to notice something about their food, so I doubt it is something like that. The last line is meant as a compliment, I know sometimes emotions are not conveyed correctly through written correspondence. :) OH I just thought of something else, one of my does pulled the wire one time and scratched herself, could it have been something like that?

Did you check her anal glands? They are little pockets below the anus and to either side of the sex organs. The discharge can have a very dark color, from orange to brown, and it reeks! Possibly that is what you were seeing.

You could insert a damp cotton swab into her anus slightly to check for actual blood... but I have no clue as to how to treat it if she is bleeding there.
