Black eyed whites

Hi there
Am looking for some help with a couple kits I have in the nest. Black eyed whites.
From BEW(unsure of parents) x harlequin mating.
What would make the eyes black, rather than red/blue?

REW are from albino genetics and is albino is recessive.. BEW are not...it is caused by Vienna gene...your harliquin is obviously neither, but could possibly carry the Vienna gene but breeding BEW to anything except other BEW will not always give blue eyes..BEW x BEW is only way to get 100% BEW...depending on what the harlequin also carries determines what the possible breeding outcomes are. If your harli is non vienna carrier you will never get BEW from the breeding but offspring will carry the BEW gene...if the hali carries Vienna there is a 50% chance of BEW...There is much more to it but hope this helps you to understand a little bit

Hi thanks. Yeah I'm very well versed with genetics only this had me stumped. I thought cos of the odd pairing the eyes may have been mottled or genetically affected like they can when breeding some others together. They must be frosty pt then (agouti based point) or a really shoddy BEW(eye colour wise) as found out BEW dam has cchl or cchd behind her plus likely non extension. I use rews in my spoint line and bews obviously in its own vienna/bew line as it ruins non Vienna lines. Answered my own question

Ah yes the chinchilla gene or other C locus genes can effect eye color too...I'm not familiar with all the different color names for different breeds as I breed Rex we can get some crazy variations too..we call these whites, frostiest, etc that have dark eyes Ermine

Dark eyed whites are frosties. They're red/orange with the chinchilla gene.
