I am enjoying the few that we have... such friendly little critters !!!!

But... one of the bucks is blowing coat so bad ! It literally comes out by the handful ! I tried using the blower to remove some of it...but..i nearly blew him Off the table ! I'm thinking that Plucking might be a better choice with his coat. Problem is... i'm not certain HOW to pluck... I wondered if there might be a You-tube video that i could watch and See how it is done. I don't want to yank and hurt him... he is too friendly and i don't want to spoil that.

I would appreciate suggestions. :)

Hmm, I could make one.

I blew one of my girls off of the table once... maybe that's why she doesn't like me.:hmm:

They are so small, I usually pluck it, more like stroking/finger combing for several minutes. Most of my woolys just molt down to the skin.

I actually located YouTube and Did find a couple videos dealing with grooming Angoras. One showed a Young Lady plucking her rabbit. It was very close to what i was doing... and she made the point that it would be done over several days. That was a Great help, as i thought it was all done at one time ! ( poor bunny ! )

Now what i need to figure out is What to do with the wool. :bunnyhop:

It is taking me a month to completely groom my Wooly and the shedding angora.

If you like, you can bag it up and send it to me :) I have 5 Woolys, which is probably like 2 angoras, and their wool is currently on the drop spindle. Most of the time, since they shed down to the skin, I find it as clumps in the cage.

You can also use the slicker brush to pluck it with ... it will come out in a perfect rolag for spinning :) No need to card at all unless you are blending.

I had concerns that the slicker brush would remove the guard hairs as well as the wool...or am i mistaken ?

It seems like such a tiny amount of wool... (especially when i think about the quantity that came off the sheep !! )

It doesn't seem to remove anything that would not have come off on its own. I have a small cat slicker.

The guard hairs are going to shed along with the finer wool fibers. Unless the guard hairs are extremely larger than the wool fibers, they generally stay in with the larger wool breeds. As I have never felt a JW, I cannot say whether the guard hairs are large enough to be an issue :D
