My only concern is the upcoming Ohio Mini Convention. I've had enough problems. I'm not taking my Foxes or any of my rabbits if there is any chance there is even a hint of truth. No show is worth my herd. I've already lost some upcoming jrs from a doe I brought home with them from a show. Good thing they were all QTd after the show.

Is Ohio cooped or not cooped? I think much of the concern has to do with the cooping and having sick rabbits in close proximity of others for over a 24 hour period. In carrying cage shows you can keep rabbits somewhat isolated and can see a sick rabbit at the table and keep your rabbit clear of them.

We're not going to shows for a while because we have a small risk of already being contaminated not that we worry about picking it up.

Just checked their faq. All rabbits must be cooped. All cooped rabbits must be showing, no for sale rabbits in the show hall. That right there would count me out. I don't know that I'm going to do a coop show ever again.

Just my opinion but loading in the dark is not a valid reason for overlooking white snot. We look ours over daily while feeding and are new to rabbits as well...be a year in May. I did not witness any of this and feel for all involved, such a loss of herd would be devastating. Our protocol is to weigh everyone a week before a show so that nobody is over or under, clip nails and go over with a fine tooth comb making sure everyone is healthy. We also weigh again the day before...just in case but we are a little OCD :D I hope this is being blown out of proportion and that no one experiences any loss of herd.

Like they say, there is "his side", "your side" and "the truth" somewhere in the middle. So, while we will probably never know the whole truth about the situation, I know that a lot of harshness is associated with the KY Cup both as a show venue and among the breeds which is a total shame.

I didn't want to get into it on here, but since you aired it.
It was more than one rabbit. I'll stick with the other side since other rabbits cooped next to his have come down with the same symptoms 7 days after the show. I was there and multiple people with 10 years plus show experience said they had never seen anything so blatantly bad. The club and it's members were absolutely welcoming to all of us new people, and I don't blame them if some of them are getting upset because they are having to put down some of their herd or put their show rabbits off the shelf for the next month entirely because of someone else's obvious carelessness.

When it is so bad that members of the club wish to change the by laws of the club so that they can prevent something like that before it even gets to the table, I got no sympathy for that guy. We're not taking our rabbits anywhere for a while because of it and it's not paranoia to pull back our rabbits from shows for the next three weeks it's just common sense courtesy to the rest of the community.

We had a new family showing Silver Fox at a show earlier in the spring and they had a rabbit brought up to the table that was exhibiting snot and it was DQ'ed and a judge told them how to handle their business. They showed up to the nationals and they had their herd culled back and under control. That is the difference between a responsible breeder and that guy.
:yeahthat:

I paid 1000.00 for rabbits to be picked up at nationals. I am pretty pissed. It was more than one rabbit. And the ONE that has been mentioned the most also made it back to the fur table AFTER getting DQ'd. Another was SOLD at the show and put down b/c of the extreme condition it was in. This is from a breeder with decades of experience. NOT a Novice. Proof is in the pudding. When a breeder openly admits to breeding sick stock b/c he produces well or that they breed sick stock to breed resistance it time to dig a little deeper. When someone admits to lying about their practices b/c if they did not customers would not purchase, its time to dig a LOT deeper.

What state was this SF breeder with the sick bunnies from? I'm curious because of something I saw at a show recently.

*edit*, I'll just pm no need to draw into question a whole state.

Thank you for that.

Let's please be careful, everybody, and not become part of the rumor mill.
