I went outside last evening to feed the buns, and found that Daphne had pulled a flurry of fur!

I was surprised, as it's only day 25, and she is a first timer. I put a nest box and some straw in her cage, and...

First time popple watch initiated. Wish me well :)

Update: it did not go well. She had five kits and three didn't make it. Two are in the dryer now, warming up, but I am not expecting them to make it, either. On the up side, she did have them in the nest box. So, there's hope for next time.

Hoorah for the haystache! :p

I see Hubby made her a cozy custom nestbox! :clap2:

Howevah... tell him to hide the lumber stamp at the back next time. I'm sure she could care less, but I'm picky that way...

That's my fault- I am going to paint the box, but she surprised me with the early pulling. :)

Only day 27, so no popples yet. She is doing well, still eating and being her bunny self. I expect kits around the beginning of October.

I went and bought some fruity Tums today, and made sure the parsley is good to go.

Even hubby checks on her when he's out there. It's funny, he talks to her and checks the nest box.

Maybe she is waiting for the nursery to be painted?

Just for you, MSD, the nursery has now been painted! It's a nice deep brown to coordinate with Daphne, the chocolate doe's color.

Looks like your doe has a clue. I had a first timer last month have the kits on wire (all were dead). This month I put in a nestbox and told her if she didn't use the box that I'd fill her entire cage with nestboxes. She used the nestbox thankfully and all the babies are doing well.

So sorry. When a doe uses the nestbox to keep the babies warm, why are so many lost anyway? Very sad; so much work and anticipation/future hoped-for happiness, drain on the doe's body, drain on the owner's emotions....

What? Why? Terrible. I hope at least one, if not both, of the remaining kits can pull through.
