I just finished reading a post about a dark self rabbit being disqualified for having white toes and I can understand the reasoning but I was wondering if the same strict rules apply to rabbits that are not a recognized breed yet (ie lionheads, velveteen lops) or a recognized variety/colour but can be exhibited in ARBA shows (but not win official points), breed club shows, or 4-H.

I am curious about the protocol on deciding who wins since the standard of perfection has yet to be officially recognized.

I think the answer to that would be yes.

They have a "Code of Development", which is pretty much the same thing as a "Standard". Most new breeds start with only one or two colors or varieties so they can work on perfecting those first, and then add others once the breed has been recognized.

Yep, to be considered they have to follow the Code of Development, COD, and they have to carry and present it to the judge at any show they go to. They can only show colors with CODs.

I am really impressed with the chinchilla Dutch in the USA and set out to develop my own. I got a 'good hiding' from the British Rabbit Council' who made their feelings clear. It's not recognised so don't do it. This made me think who I breed my rabbits for and why. I do it for me. I enjoy it. Needless to say I no longer have BRC membership but I do have some wonderful chinchilla Dutch which are in huge demand!
