    Our newest additions, pics.

We have about 40 rhode island reds and were looking for some new colour to add to our flock and our eggs. :) There are 19 all together, 17 ameraucanas (easter eggers), and 2 marans. We are looking at getting an incubator in the fall and putting it to use next spring.

    Mastitis?

We have a doe with a litter of 9, 3 week old kits. When I was doing my check I noticed, although it was pretty obvious since we have all NZW's that the kits were all over the doe trying to feed and 4 of her teats were bleeding. I immediately removed her. I gave her an hour and then checked...

    Pig info please

We are thinking of getting a few pigs to raise up this summer. We thought if we raised 3 we could sell 2 to pay for all the feed and to get ours butchered. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on the subject that they would like to share. We have both worked on pig farms when we were...

Up til now all our sales have been fryers, today is the first time, hopefully not the last, that we have sold any of our rabbits for breeding stock. :D The couple that bought him were very nice. I was a little nervous at first because we didn't know them, but it turned out to be a good thing...

    Doe with possible stuck kit?

Last week we had a storm with really strong winds, uprooted 4 very tall pine our front and broke a 32 year old maple tree at the back which inturn knocked out our hydro. The following night a doe had a litter of 11 all dead, some in the nestbox and some on the wire. Since then she has not been...

    First time fostering.

Nikki kindled on Wednesday morning and she had 13 kits :D , unfortunately one didn't make it so she ended up with 12. Then last night Ash kindled but she only had 1 kit. Talk about going from one extreme to another. :? Anyway, I took 4 from Nikki and put them in with Ash. Both are 1st time...

    At 27 days, really?

I am sure these rabbits are going to give me heart failure. Out of 6 breedings we have only had one litter of 2 babies. Tonight I went out to do my evening feeding and I hear a squeaking, sounds like mice, turn around Jenna is washing her babies on the wire. She wasn't due for her nest box...

    Safe Homemade Toys?

While on another topic rabbit toys came up. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for safe, very inexpensive rabbit toys. I plan on eventually having 300 does or more so I am looking for something that won't cost an arm, leg and my first 500 born. :)

    Off to a slow start!!!

So far our meat business is off to a very slow or should I say no start...yet. We purchased our first 3 does and a buck on Jan 8, let them settle in a little and bred Abs on Jan 14. Waiting seems like forever when you are a newbie. We weren't expecting alot from a first time doe, but we were...
