Just a hobby for me too but can't I still party, gamble, drink and raise rabbits too!! LOL
Just kidding I don't figure if I'm losing money...I just enjoy raising rabbits.
Thanks for the suggestions!!!!
I'll try some but I'm leaning with grumpy....hate to see the waste and have other rabbits that seem to be such "easy keepers"!!
I have a litter of 9 NZ whites....they are just like there mother.
She at times will dig out her pellets from her feeder....now the babies are doing the same...BIG TIME!!
She has been a good mother but I am ready to get rid of her because of this and she seems to pass it on.
Rambling...
Anyone ever seen or heard of this??

I felt sorry for the bunny!!

__________ Fri Jul 12, 2013 12:06 pm __________

OOOPPPS...sorry, I just saw another post about this.
I'm 45 min. west of you(Rockford)....I thought we might be having some rain by now. I think the garden would like it!!!
Missed the end of that other thread...did you get those abandoned bunnies??
She may be doing for her enjoyment as much as she is doing it for a profit.
I raise rabbits for meat and enjoy it and use the manure on my garden which I also enjoy. If it was just about getting cheap meat, I may be better of buying it elsewhere.
Selling rabbits, as in selling anything, is not dependent on the cost of raising or making it. It is dependent on what people are willing to pay for it.
If she can find no market for her rabbits, she is likely selling them for the most she can get!!
Just a bit of an up-date...doe gave birth to 2 babies that were dead. Not sure if they died after birth or born dead. It was does first litter. She made a nest and pulled fur and they were born in the nest box.
How long should I wait to re-breed??
I don't think it's urine....it is thick enough to hang onto wire floor?? By waterery I ment not a bright red color but rather diluted red color.
I have seen the redish color urine you speak of but this seems different.
Thanks for your thoughts. Lowell
Got an NZ doe to breed for the first time 3 days ago and today she has a watery/bloody discharge showing,,,,could she have aborted?? She seems to be eating good.
If so...when could I rebreed??
I know how you feel!!.... and congrats!!
I just got my new NZ buck and doe to breed today. Didn't think it was ever going to happen. They never seemed interested the other times I put them togather.
Just saw this post.
I bought a rabbit as a pet for the grandkids a couple years ago.......but it was going to stay at my house. I saw it as a gateway rabbit to raising meat rabbits. It worked!!! and I am enjoying raising my rabbits and enjoying eating them!!
My doe had her litter March 20....it was 10 degrees that night and 12 the next night. It is a little warmer now but still freezes every night so far. Have not looked at the babies but feel them every day and they seem warm and seem to be doing fine.
Not the weather I expected for the...
Demamma...I have been trying to get on there good side too. The buck seems a little tamer but the doe is still wild...not biting but slapping with front paws and stomping the floor. I don't plan on selling any...just wanted to use for making meat!! If she is a good mother she will be saved...
