so if anyone remembers my older posts i've had thee worst time tryin to get meat rabbits. i keep ending up with smaller breeds (dutch, lionhead, minirex, etc) and then going through all these meat does that just will not produce.

well this cali doe is FINALLY bred! :p i'm so stoked to see what she has!
i had bred her to my american white buck before he left, as well as my black minilop buck. the minilop now has a litter with an english spot and they are the fastest growin babies i've ever had! and it was litter of 8. the american buck always threw litters of 10 every time but i was never able to keep any alive to butcher weight or age due to a rampid mystery illness (though that seems to have gone as fast as it came). so i'm excited to see what i get.

i guess i still suck irrevicably at palpating. because until yesterday i could not feel a darn thing and then it was like all of a sudden she's full of baby blobs! :p  so after the first breeding i had bred her to my dutch buck. so i guess i'll find out who the dad(s) is/are when she has em depending on the date she has em and how they end up lookin.

Yay! Glad you got her bred. Look forward to hearing what the babies look like.
Maybe we'll even get to see pictures?... ;)

Congrats! Hope she gives you a nice big litter! :D I have a cali doe I've been trying to breed a while now too and that stubborn thing finally bred the other day also. Maybe spring is in the air! :)

Congrats, OGG! Finally... some rabbit for the table that was actually bred for the purpose!

Funny, I was just outside weeding (and feeding weeds to buns!), and saw a plant that could be Hemlock or could be Queen Anne's Lace, which made me start wondering about those mystery deaths you had. So it ended as mysteriously as it started? Have you tested them on the other cutting of hay again?

I know how you feel!!.... and congrats!!

I just got my new NZ buck and doe to breed today. Didn't think it was ever going to happen. They never seemed interested the other times I put them togather.

i had been feeding first cutting hay when the deaths were happening. so i figured it was those bales and switched to the second cutting, which is actually lesser quality. still deaths. so i stopped feedin hay and gave a bit extra pellets... still deaths. then no more young ones were left and i sold the problem mom, who was also mom of one of the litters that all died. and her sister had been the one who strangely died at christmastime while i'd been away.

since then i've just gone back to feeding hay. and i've run out of the first cutting hay between all the animals and have only second cutting. and no deaths since.

all i can imagine is that it was a couple bad bales. i seriously have no idea other then that.

and i see the correlation with the ones that were related dying. but the FGs i'd sold and who;d died (died same week as the christmastime one i had die) and they are totally unrelated at all. as well as the NZW doe that died. the one i did the necropsy on.

and FINALLY BABIES!!!! she had 9. one was dead, but it looks fine just dead. like it was born first and just got a bit in the way to get squished when mom was havin the rest. but it was clean and seemed to have a full belly.

all are white. she is a chocolate californian and was bred to a black minilop and a steel dutch. so we'll see how the babies turn out as they grow. they are definitely bigger then the other newborns i've had here.

__________ Sun Apr 07, 2013 5:36 pm __________

oh, and i'm workin on pics in a moment :)

so here is first days babies and momma

and the 1/4 MR, 1/4 ES, 1/2 dutch broken chocolate that i adore!

was kinda on the verge of chilly this morning and then over the day it got colder. now its about 40*F's tonight and cold enough that the rain is kinda some tiny hail in it. i can hear it on the window.
the buns are in a pretty darn cozy nest in the hutch but i'm wondering if any are cali colored will this bring out their coloring if so? two of them i think i see a TEENY TINY amount of coloring comin in on the ears and tail. the others still pure white. and they opened all their eyes and all are pink. so all are cali or REW, just waitin on points to come in if any.

tryin photobucket *AGAIN*...

They are sooooo cute when their ears get going :p

computer issues but i'm workin on things. got a video update done finally. sorry the second one kinda repeats things from the first video *blushes* the first video was 4/26/13 and second one i had to make cause the lionhead had her babies (dad is the black minilop buck i'd had before, actually he just came back to me *grr* but ya...) so second vid is 4/27/13.
