    your thoughts on Creme d'Argents?

Thanks for the thoughts, Honorine. I still haven't made a decision about this... The folks I was probably going to get foundation stock from did poorly at the ARBA convention. Yes, I know that one judge can interpret the standard very differently from another, and also that regional trends...

Nervous about selling mutts... (Moral issue)

I've never sold any of my mutts so far - they've all gone straight into the pot - but if I were to hang on to some to further breeding objectives, and then want to move them on once they had served their purpose, I wouldn't hesitate to do so as long as they fit my other requirements for sale as...

Breeding program updates for our start up year!

It's great to hear that you're doing well, Comet007! Have you kept up with your herbal supplements for the rabbits, and if so, what seems to be helping them the most?

How young can you breed a buck?

I'd try them again two weeks after... In my experience, sometime the buck's desires are more advanced than his fertility... in other words, they start out by shooting blanks. So just give them a second try on the 16th.

feeding fodder when temp below freezing question

Good point, WhiteWingRabbitry - if feeding frosted grass was a problem, I would lose all my tractored rabbits every year! We have sub-freezing temps off and on from October to May around here... For what it's worth, I raised a litter on barley fodder and hay last winter. They grew ok, not quite...

    Lakeland Rabbit Habit

Protein seems a bit low, but it depends on how hard you push your rabbits, and if you feed alfalfa at the same time like many of us westerners. With good alfalfa, you might be ok from the extra protein in the hay. I don't like to feed corn or soy, but I'd bet that the amount of those two...

Software for tracking meat rabbit data

I do some of those things, but not all, in Excel. I have one file that tracks breeding info (and has formulas so that once I enter in a breeding, the dates for palpation, test breeding, nest box provision, and expected kindling all pop up; then also has rebreeding and weaning date suggestions...

    bartering who's done it?

We have an awesome bartering agreement with a family friend in which we get a bottle of wine per pound of dressed rabbit. Her business is wine importing and a wine-of-the-month club, so we get some really great wines selected by an expert!

    1/2 inch EMT for flooring

We considered using that material as flooring for rabbit tractors instead of the more standard wooden slats, but scrapped the idea because of weight. For normal, static cages, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Do report back if you give it a try!

    Winterizing Outdoor Hutch

Check out MSD's tutorial on installing artificial burrows (AKA repurposed plant pots). Those will give them a nice space off of the wire. But keep an eye on your rabbits, some of mine decide to try to eat their pots or use them as a bathroom, so not everyone has ended up with one...

    My duckies

"laughing ducks" - that's a great description of the sound they make! I think the mystery dark ducks might be Cayuga, or Cayuga crosses. We were the lucky (??) recipients of a few of those the other day, and I must admit, we are really taken with them. Very handsome, laying well, and settled in...

Dried grass as baby bedding? :)

Whoa, I walk away for a day or two... Someone (akane? sorry, the response is back on a different page so I can't scroll up and look at it) brought up the point that I had missed that the life stage of the grass in question was cut might be relevant. That is a good point, I hadn't thought of...

iron-on hem tape with rabbit pelts?

Yeah, I figured this would be an experimentation sort of thing. I hadn't decided exactly which garments I would try to amend. But I tend to wear mostly cotton, cotton blends, and random synthetics. I guess the related question is - what would happen to a pelt if you ironed it?

iron-on hem tape with rabbit pelts?

Hi folks. I have been considering adding rabbit fur trim to a couple of garments, but I have almost zero experience with sewing of any kind. While looking online for advice, I stumbled across mention of using iron-on hemming tape to attach FAKE fur trim to clothing. Now that stuff is right up...

Dried grass as baby bedding? :)

Well-dried grass? Absolutely no mold or other impurities? That's exactly the same thing that I have been using for a year, and seems to be the same as grass hay. My "dried grass" was cut with a scythe and so wasn't bruised by a lawn mower, but still, I don't see how perfectly dried lawn...

    October 18 Bakersfield CA Show

Anybody planning to head over from northern Nevada? I have a few buns I wouldn't mind entering, but can't make it over myself.

    5 week weights

Ooh, ooh - I'll play too! Ok, these are Americans from my heavy milkers line. However, they had a very unfair advantage in that there was only 2 in the litter - the infertility fairy had struck, and the other two does bred at the same time missed completely. I was happy to get anything, even if...

    Gotta love Facebook! LOL

Oof, I feel everyone's pain here... I am trying hard to participate in some of the FB rabbit groups, but it's outright painful some time to read some of the posts. And apparently lots of people now feel that they don't need to bother Googling or GOD FORBID pick up a book about rabbits before...

    ARRGHH! The infertility fairy strikes!!!

Out of three does bred during the same two days in early August, only one of them kindled - and even then, she only had 2! I guess my previous run of having had no problems with buck fertility during hot spells has ended. But the one plus is - super-fat baby rabbits from such a tiny litter...
