Nestbox ideas

You keep your buns indoors so you can use just about anything..I have seen people use beer boxes and plastic totes...we build ours too. But if the TSC ones are metal sanitation would be a snap just hose them off and put in the dishwasher.. :)

And... She's Done Mothering... Care until she Kindles again?

I can understand travel times, I live in nowhere Arizona, The nearest grocery store is 25 miles away. I know for some that doesn't seem like far but when you have to go on a major interstate with a lot of traffic to get there it really wears you out. I drove over an hour each way to get meat...

And... She's Done Mothering... Care until she Kindles again?

Check to make sure there is no heat or hardness..other than that I'd say she is probably ok..6 weeks old is a bit young to sell off the little ones though. I worry about enteritis and even though I separate out my grow outs at 7 weeks..I have only had one poopy butt in my grow outs..most...

    can't seem to win...

Harvey is doing much better now.. I had tried the oil but it didn't cut through the crud, I have not seen mites in anything other than rabbits. And never bad. I was hesitant to use chemicals but with the oil not even budging it...I figured I better do something before the poor kitty scratched his...

    Wanted to Share a Blessing!

That's wonderful for your brother and you...Some animals are not meant to be mothers, sounds like you got one before...I never take any-ones word for how any animal will perform. Misshapen baby

    General decline in rabbit health-Grumpy.

-- Fri May 22, 2015 10:51 am --

I culled a 10 day old kit Tuesday for this..it was getting weaker everyday, I had to convince hubby that it wouldn't make it and prove that it was starving.Uggh...

    Misshapen baby

What are your plans for this kit? Supposing she does make it? You know she should not be bred, she has developmental disorders at least physically who knows about her brain at this point. When they start to slide downhill on their own, I cull, no extraordinary efforts. I have had kits that were...

    disappointing litter

Could be age or condition. .if she got fat in between litters..or could be a fluke..breed her as soon as those are weened...my big girl had 8 to 11 normally then 4, so at 4 weeks I bred her back...she had 6. I know she is only 2 so I figure she got a little overweight.

    Favorite "meat mutts?"

First generation of crosses will give hybrid vigor..faster growth and stronger immune systems. .in my experience it drops off after that. But I still get great growth from my mutts. .I only have one "pure" she is a Flemish rew...my herd dam, if I get my way..I have one black chin X Flemish...

    Bird Flu

I have one the older one that goes broody every few months...no rooster though, been scouring Craigslist but everyone wants like 25 bucks for a rooster!!! guess I will have to buy some straight run chicks, but with the way things have been going for me they will be all roosters. :x

    Bird Flu

Interesting article,It said that the virus thrives in cool dark conditions...I wonder if the warmer states have had any problems? It is good to know that backyard operations are largely unaffected though...I was talking to hubby this morning about getting some more chicks before the price goes...

    Hay stashing!

Make sure you treat any buck she was with also..for the kits I would assume the antibiotics will pass through in the milk...don't worry about the kits and temperature..mine crawl in and out of the fur ...in the warmth of the day they will be in the front of the nest box, then at the night feed...

    Ballista Captive Bolt. Any experience?

Nope, video never happened, there is a video on the bunny rancher site. No the bolt is to large..It probably would work, but would go all the way through...kinda messy...your best option with very young kits is to whack them on a hard surface.. The pictures are of a head with the skin cut and...

What to do with runt *Indii*

I have a runt one like that, also meat mutts, I used to cull but it is hard emotionally to kill a baby..so I have been letting nature take its course. The last runt I had made it and is now in the grow out cage waiting for freezer camp. He is only a bit smaller than his siblings. .when they...
