Hi all! What have you been doing lately?

Thank you, Zee-Man. Hope your business thrives and that you are able to turn again to your many survival projects soon. You certainly "know your stuff" and we all benefit from your generous sharing of that knowledge. Rabbits are certainly an important part of many survival plans. In the past...

Hi Secuono! Welcome back! People come and people go, but RT just keeps going. Hope you enjoy your return to raising rabbits. ~ Maggie

stopped labor, with more kits inside...

Hello Rosie. Welcome to RabbitTalk. Rabbits usually give birth quite easily, so to have so many having problems kindling makes me wonder what is causing this. What breed are you raising? Have you investigated to try to find out if this is an inherited problem? Perhaps talked to the person who...

    Writers among our members

Ladysown, I didn't know you write poetry. I edited my initial post to include it specifically. Do you care to share the link to your not-rabbitry blog?

Welcome back, Iggysbabysitter! What sweet faces your sphinx kitties have! It takes a while to get used to them being fur-less, but they have their own beauty, don't they? Sending you a message. ~ Maggie

    Writers among our members

Hello Everybunny, This thread is for the writers among our members -- people who are quietly tap-tap-tapping away on their keyboards to create a novel, novella, short story, poem or other written work. I'm writing a historical novel set in the 1880s in Ontario, just north of where I live. The...

Hi all! What have you been doing lately?

Hi rockyhillrabbits, Thank you for your kind words. It's been very hard, but I try to take comfort in the memories of the 29 years we had together. I think I'll start a thread in the Coffee Table for members who are writing a book. I think there are more of us than we realize. ~ Maggie

    Quick, before it wilts!

Usually one can dry herbs stem and all by hanging them in small bunches or laid flat on a screen. They must have good air circulation to prevent mould. I imagine your weather is similar to mine which has been cool for high summer and breezy. This is great weather for drying things, but I don't...

Hi all! What have you been doing lately?

I've been busy getting my life on track again after losing my husband in May. It hasn't been easy, but I'm getting there slowly. Since I no longer have rabbits and poultry due to mobility issues, I have turned to other interests. I am writing a historical novel set in Ontario, just north of...

How are you keeping your rabbits cool this really hot "summer" so far?

This is an excellent set-up and the photographs and write-up show everything one needs to know to make a similar one. Thank you for posting, HT Acres. ~ Maggie

    I'm making a rabbit pie...

No cookie cutter. I just rolled out a bit of leftover pastry and cut them out freehand with a sharp knife. If it had been a more complicated decoration, I would have drawn the leaves on thin cardboard and cut them out, using them as a pattern to cut around. It sounds harder than it is. ;)

    I'm making a rabbit pie...

There are some excellent dandelion cultivars available that would give you ample dandelions if you have room in your garden. https://www.rareseeds.com/french-dandelion

    I'm making a rabbit pie...

Your salad sounds perfect to accompany the pie, dlynn! Don't forget the dandelion leaves! My favourite springtime salad is dandelion leaves, sage, and peppermint with a blue cheese dressing. But yours sounds much more exciting.

    Meat Taste and Tenderness?

It's a good idea to sample the meat from rabbits of different ages. Tastes vary and you will soon decide which you prefer. But even rabbits several years old can give you a tasty and nutritious meal. Seasoning has a lot to do with the final result. Apples or apple juice are great in rabbit...

    Meat Taste and Tenderness?

I have mobility issues, so no longer have rabbits. But when I transitioned them off pellets, I fed alfalfa/grass mixed hay, lots of fresh weeds, tree trimmings etc. They always seemed hungry, so I started feeling them a small portion of whole grain as well. Less than 1/4 cup daily per mature...

    Meat Taste and Tenderness?

In my experience, the rabbit's diet has more to do with the flavour of the meat than the breed. I initially raised rabbits on pellets with some weeds etc. The meat was good. But when I transitioned the rabbits to a pelletless diet, the flavour of the meat pleased me much more. The rabbits also...

    Another wild baby

A very fortunate outcome! Cottontail rabbits do not do well in captivity. They are too high-strung and nervous. So far better to release back into the wild if at all possible.

Can rabbit eat sweet corn leaves and husk?

If you are certain that the plants were never sprayed for anything, it should be just fine -- either fresh or dried. Be careful there is no mould or powdery mildew on them, as you would with any other kind of forage.

Is it possible to "band" a buck to neuter ?

Anyone thinking of trying home castrating of rabbits, please think again! You would be putting your rabbit at great risk. This is a job for a veterinarian. Dood -- who posted upthread -- is extremely knowledgeable and her post is worth reading again. It's post #3 in this thread,

    Any herbal equivalent to advil?

I agree with RabbitsOfTheCreek. Willow bark -- the inner white bark -- has a substance a lot like aspirin. It is a safe tree for rabbits both as food and as medicine. No dosage -- the rabbit will eat what he needs.
