My grow out pen last night was VERY noisy with fighting so they all went into the fridge this morning. My fault but it was hard to make the time and, as they were my mutts and I had my one NZ keeper from a same age litter in there, I kept finding myself thinking "Well, maybe they will grow a little bit more!" when comparing them to him
But not a bad mornings work. I used a trick an old rabbit keeper taught me last month, once the neck is broken, hang them by the NECK instead of hte back legs. And she was dead right, the staining of neck adn shoulders caused by cervical dislocation was REALLY reduced!
So each one weighed 3.2 pounds alive and a tiny bit under 2 pounds dressed out.
The hides are all rolled up in the fridge to see if the fur slips easily in a couple/three weeks for felt making, the ribs and pelvises are simmering for stock and the prime cuts are resting in the fridge.
Oh, and the ears to slow roast for dog treats this evening.
Not much waste on our rabbits, even the hides will be stripped of hair and cut into bits to roast for the dog too.
Still havnt found a good use for the heads though, the dog wont eat them
