The unsolved mystery

2 of the 7 hatched. We had to break one out (the one laying down) today. There was a third pipped but I didn't intervene in time. These 2 are doing fairly well. I'm going to hit up TSC tomorrow and maybe pick them up a buddy (either chicken or duck).

__________ Fri Apr 10, 2015...

I can't bring myself to breed her back. Doe A should be kindling soon. If she missed again, off with them to CL pets. In other news, a duckling is hatching right now. I really hope it doesn't go kaput in the shell.

Nah. I don't think anyone is picking on me or being callous. =) I actually feel as if I'm coming across as argumentative. This has been going on for a long time. We've had labs done on bodies; IL EPA, IL Dept of Ag, vets, analytical lab agents, and just really knowledgeable "old time" farmers...

Yes, only ones that died in the house (with those symptoms). Lethargy, stargazing, seizing, death. I lost all of those ducklings. Lost all of the last batch (different source). Lost every rabbit born here. Lost 6 of 8 piglets. All the same way.

    The unsolved mystery

Yes. I got them (ducklings) when they were 4 days old. From that point until the point they started dying, they were always in the house.

    The unsolved mystery

I've had animals die in the house. Not a third-party poisoning them.

    The unsolved mystery

Already done it. There's no history here, unless someone is lying to us. Besides, this is a little dairy town and hubs has lived here all his life - there's never been a word about something being wrong on "that" farm. The rough story we've gotten is, the land was first built upon circa 1910...

    The unsolved mystery

2 more died today. My last one - a little chin - is dying right now. Its mouth was full of chewed up hay, it was shaking/wobbly. Hasn't hit the full on seizing phase yet, but I guess we'll see if it does. Hubs reports it was fine an hour ago.

Wrong symptom set and no markers for it in the testing we've done. The options we're down to Me Air Radiation Haunting

Wouldn't something like that have shown up in toxicology? We had that done on a piglet.

    The unsolved mystery

This is where we're at. We have to wait until September (I can't get a mortgage until then), unless we stumble upon another rental that is suitable for a family of 7 and will allow 2 large dogs. Lead isn't a possibility. We've had animals all over the property, in new buildings that wouldn't...

I will tomorrow. They're in the fridge (soooo glad we kept the overflow fridge from when we had goats!). I'll photo the organs. I'm expecting to find nothing wrong.

    The unsolved mystery

We're also surrounded by fields. It's just so hard to believe that is causing the issues when I know so many other homesteaders that are also surrounded, without problems. Kits are 2 weeks told today, eyes are starting to crack open. Mama's back to being extremely aggressive. She uncovered the...

    Housing angoras outdoors

Out of curiosity for future endeavors... How well do angoras do in outdoor housing? I'd like to, at some point in the distant future, build a large outdoor bunny hotel for angoras. I've read mixed reviews on their hardiness, however. How well would they fare outdoors when the temperature ranges...

    The unsolved mystery

Sadly what happened to your dobies sounds similar to what happened here. I hope you find the culprit. It's hard to get past without answers. Doe A missed. Doe B kindled this morning - not in the nest box of course. I pulled her out to look her over and gave the nest a feel. She's so persnickety...
