:p

I picked up some Florida Whites from a breeder in Washington last month, and she was kind enough to breed two of the does for me. The junior doe hasn't kindled yet, though I did feel some bumps when I palpated her. The senior, experienced doe kindled this morning, and gave me six of the cutest, squirmiest little popples I've ever seen. :in_love:

I walked out to check on them this morning, and mom was sitting inside the nestbox with a hair 'stache so I quietly slipped a berry tums into her treat dish and left. She's been such a good girl.

Welcome to the world, little ones. I'll update with pictures as they get older, if you guys like that sort of thing.

Aww, they are adorable! :p They are so-o-o pink!

We would love to see pictures of them as they grow up- they just keep getting cuter, after all! :)

:congratulations:

Checked them today, and all are still doing well. Goodness, they're squirmy! They're starting to get some peach fuzz on them. I'll update with another picture in a couple days.

Thanks! :D

Congratulations! May they grow well and without problems. <3

Yesterday was day 4 for Flurry's kits. Argh, they're getting so adorable so quickly. Is it normal to squee every time you pull one out of the nestbox? Nice looking little bellies, and they're velvety soft now with their new fur.

Doe #2, the first-timer, is kindling as we speak. I went out to do my usual morning check, and found one kit dead on the wire. I brought him in and tried the warm water and gentle rubbing trick, but I think he had been trampled at some point because once he warmed he started bleeding from the nose. Water was barely warm, so I know I didn't cook the little fellow. :( I dropped a berry tums in her treat cup and quietly snuck back out. How often is too often to go out and check for any kits I can save? (or not) I had noticed yesterday that she started pulling fur, so I do hope she'll have the rest of them in the box! It's day 35, by the way ...

A bit of exciting in a possibly not-so-good way - I'm glad I decided to winter the rabbits in the garage until I can put up a carport and some fencing for them outside next year. We found black bear poo ten feet from the house a few nights ago! :x

I have found that the less often I check the more I lose. I hope your doe does a good job and you don't lose any more.

I have a REW doe named Flurry, too! :p

What a cute little popple. :) It's hard to keep your hands off of the little guys, isn't it? :D Thankfully handling is good for them, or I don't know what I would do.

My does could care less if I am there when they are giving birth. They frequently are kindling when I feed in the mornings, and I just go about my chores, skipping feeding them until they are done. So it all depends on your rabbits. If it isn't too cold out maybe you could just sit there and read for a little while so you can keep an eye on her. Normally after the first kit passes things go more smoothly. First timers often seem to have trouble with that first baby, whether they are dogs, cats, or rabbits. I have had cats scream/growl while giving birth to their first, but then the rest of the litter comes easily. :)

Good luck- I hope you have a bunch more little popples to play with soon!

I hope I'm not in for trouble. I haven't seen any more kits. Time to go do some research.

She may have only had the one....not uncommon for a first litter. You can palpate to see if there are anymore in there. If she only had one, that is likely why she went so long before kindling...

__________ Wed Oct 31, 2012 3:03 pm __________

Oh, and lovely little popples!

No more, I palpated to be sure. Is it very common at all for first timers to just carry one?

Flurry's kits are a week old today. The largest of the bunch is adorable. It's twice the size of the smallest. Can't wait to be able to tell if it's male or female. I think I'll be keeping it either way. I rub it's cute little face, and it'll sit still for a couple seconds then grunt and "popple". So cute! :p My obsession is baby bunny tails, is that weird at all?

I may have to clean the nestbox out a little soon, at least replace what's covering the floor. They've all got yellow patches on them. Don't need them rolling around in pee and poop while their eyes are trying to open.
