Lots of Questions

Grind it and make bunny burgers or use the ground for taco or burrito meat. That is an easy intro to rabbit and then you can experiment from there. I butcher mine and then freeze most and leave 1-2 in the fridge for 2-3 days to let rigor pass. You can crock pot any rabbit in almost any sauce...

    Skinny buck with round belly

Yeah I have definitely seen the worms in their poop, some more than others. I am sure that any hay between field, warehouse and barn/storage has had some kind of rodent in it. Did you have liver cocci or intestinal? And what did you see besides loss of condition? __________ Wed Jan 08, 2014...

    Skinny buck with round belly

Thanks for all the input, I have found all information helpful. The Ivermectinm didn't help gave 3 rounds 10 days apart. Now a few more rabbits have worms in poop. As mentioned above, it is white worms, possibly pin or whip type. I am getting the safeguard and trying that. I also want to do...

    procedures for new popples

The bedding needs changed weekly, so I have to do as early as day 5. Try to save as much clean fur as you can, remove all the messy hay and fur and add back clean hay/straw (or whatever you use as it varies). At day 10-12 they should be opening their eyes. You want to make sure that they are...

New and expecting baby rabbit soon

Don't be surprised if they go to day 32 or even a bit later. Sounds like you will be very busy soon. I wish my CL had better offerings like you are getting. Best of luck and I hope they took.

How Many Cages Do I Need?

I really depends on how large each litter is and what the sexes are. Kits should be separated by sex 8-10 weeks. After that they may start fighting, even some does. I think 8 would be great. But as a suggestion is is great to breed 2 does at the same time to have the option for fostering...

    Skinny buck with round belly

For a 10 lb buck I did .03 cc injected sub Q not intra muscular. I have read it is .018 cc per lb but I was being cautious. I did use revolution for a buck that I got that had fur mites. I have heard you can use that also for worms in rabbits. I have also given him gas drops to help with the...

    Pregnant Doe - Day 40 *update & question - 12/15*

I am not good at palpating. Often does that are bred right before buying them don't take due to the stress of a new home and such. By now, she probably isn't pregnant and you should rebreed. Lavender is a great uterine stimulant and I used it on a doe that was having a difficult labor. She...

    Ivermectin for fur mites?

I used revolution for cats on my rabbit with fur mites. But I now have ivermectin and I will use that. From a study that I read recently sub q injections work the best and a round of 3, to catch the eggs.

__________ Mon Dec 16, 2013 7:30 pm __________

PS DE didn't do any...

    Skinny buck with round belly

I took a though look over and then looked below his cage. He had worms in the poop. I checked under all the other rabbits and no sing. Still keeping an eye out. I gave him a sub-q injection of ivermectin. He already looks better. I will be following up with 2 more round 11 days apart. I...

    Dandruff or mites?

If fur is missing and you see dandruff it is most likely mites. I didn't see any crawling of the dandruff but one of my bucks had mites when I brought him home. From what I read any dandruff is fur mites. It is easy to take care of.

    Skinny buck with round belly

My older Am Chin buck is almost 3 years old. I have had him for about 8 months, he has been a great breeder. He has gone from 9 1/2 lbs to 10 1/2 lbs in the last 2 months but feels skinny. I can feel his spine and hips a bit. He eats, drinks and poops normal. He gets hay daily, he won't eat all...

    giant chinchillas rabbits for meat

I have Am Chins as well. They are due with their first litter soon. I have also been wondering about the Giant Chins as meat. There are some close to me so I could try it, but I am already out of room. So I would love to know if they would be worth it. Maybe I will have to get a doe next...

What to do with the extra parts from rabbit processing?

CWD thanks for sharing. I might try braving it and see how it goes with the smell and predator thing. My dog has been staying outside and just got skunked a few days ago. But at least he was doing his job.
