Refurbishing the Rabbitry (and why NOT to use Bass J-clips)

I have been known to strengthen my bottom cage wire with a bit of cloths line cable when hanging a big cage. You J-clip it to the wire and there is nothing for poo to catch on. Looks like you got great help!

    first litter pictures

Our first litter in years! This is from a mixed Doe and Buck we picked up earlier this year. She has turned out to be a good mother so far, made a good nest and looks like everyone is getting enough milk. I am very happy to have a full litter survive to this point in mid winter, though it has...

    heat light?

She did it, had the litter yesterday while I was at work. I only felt around for dead ones, didn't find any. Everyone seemed alive warm and moving! Couldn't get a good count, but I think six or more! Her nest turned out very effective, if not neat: I checked again this morning at 4am when...

    heat light?

Picture didn't come out great but I lined the box with cardboard and placed her start of a next back inside. She has pulled some fur. She is due tomorrow, suppose to be 60F! Great day for February! Mother waiting out her time. I should have taken a picture of the hutch arrangement...

    false pregnancy?

I didn't know that was possible! I have always done it that way but I stay right there, the entire process only takes 30 seconds. If she had been a cooperative doe at the first setting, and she has a fit when I put her in the cage, she come right back out and I figure she is breed. I don't...

    heat light?

Here is a picture of the box I made. She had started a nest, pulled some fur. I gave her some more nesting material this morning. Note, I only cut down one side because I knew how I was going to fit it into her cage. I think this will help keep kits from getting between the next box and the...

    false pregnancy?

I toss my doe back in with the buck a week after the first breeding. Normally I can tell by her reaction if she is breed or not. If she really builds a nest I would put the box in, otherwise wait till closer to due date.

    heat light?

My doe is due in two days, put the next box in Saturday and she has been working on a nest. Her cage is outside, blocked from the wind. Should I go ahead and place a heat lamp above the next box or not? She is a first time mother for me, but not a first time mother, she did fine with her last...

How did you choose your breed?

I don't know that I have just yet... I have always been the "test drive" type guy.

    why raise rabbits

Raised them as a kid, my grandparents had them also. When my son's where young we raised them to help with their learning experience. My mom's husband starting raising them last year, he brought me some fried rabbit this fall and I remembered how good it was. He got to talking about his...

    1+1 = 14?

Well they came from a pretty good mom to have 12 live in the litter. I wouldn't mind to have a few of them, they at least look like good eat'in.
