Sadly I think three are peanuts. Only one normal baby. She never built a nest but she did have them in the nest I made lol. She pulled lots of hair and did a good job. I am keeping the peanuts in there until they pass away on their own to keep the healthy baby warm.

Wish I had some comparison. Haven't gotten a holland peanut yet. Maybe the other is just really big?

You can normally tell by the underdeveloped ears and bulging eyes. Look at how the normal kits ears are and then look at the peanuts.

The peanut on the bottom right looks like its hindquarters are messed up, but the other two look fine except for the tiny ears.

Thanks MSD. Another sign with these guys is the normal kit has a fat full belly and they don't really have a belly at all. Their little hindquarters are all a little "off" which is also a sign of being a peanut.

Now that you mention it, I see that they are all narrow in the hq's, whereas the normal one has nice full haunches.

Since you deal with peanuts, do you usually try to breed two does at once so you can foster? Also, do you cull does based on who throws a high percentage of peanuts, or is it just a random event?

It must be disappointing to look at a litter and know right off that several kits aren't going to live. ((Hugs))

Thanks. This is my first dwarf litter. I did breed my two does at the same time but the other didn't take. She is pregnant right now though and due august 5th. The only other litter i have is the English Angora litter who are 7 days odd now. Just like in humans and all animal that are dwarfs there are two genes. A normal dwarf is Dd a normal rabbit is dd, and the peanuts are DD. The double dwarfing gene is fatal in rabbits as well as humans. If you do the punnet squares, you get.
25%normal dd
25% double dwarf DD
50% dwarf Dd

Sorry you have so many peanuts, but I hope your singleton grows big and strong! Maybe they aren't all peanuts, just small.

Ah, I see. I haven't had any yet, but I've had runty Rexes that small, less than half the size of the normal ones.

Sorry to see all the peanuts. One thing I studied before going dwarf was these poor things and what to expect. Hoping the big one does well.

If you haven't gotten any that means that one of the parents isn't a true dwarf. Some pairs will never produce them.

Thanks! The peanuts are still kicking. I think the only thing that has grown is their head. They are sadly cute.

The peanuts are so cute. Such a shame they have that gene that is fatal.
