get nasty e-mails about how you're the worst person in the world and eating domestic rabbits is just as bad as eating a dog.

Skyrocket, tell them that rabbits are much healthier to eat than dogs

When you arrive at a rabbit show and receive dirty looks from the other exhibitors...because there is blood splashed on your travel carriers and you have forgotten to wash it off.

...or get dirty looks from other parents, when they overhear your kids telling their kids to try one with BBQ.

True story...happened just last Monday.

Hubby works for the county. This county is strongly agriculture driven. Lots of farmers reside here and the county works with farmers and should have an understanding and empathy for them.

Hubby was showing pictures of the week-old kits. They are old enough to have fur and color but still have their eyes closed. Very cute. Part of the conversation was why we keep rabbits. They are a healthy, clean source of meat with a low impact on the environment.

Hubby was proudly showing off the newest arrivals when one of his superiors came up into the conversation and stated an opinion on eating rabbit. "That's disgusting!" were the actual words.

Hubby is proud of his rabbits. Proud to provide food in such a healthy, economical, and environmentally sensitive way. Understandably he was hurt and angry.

I am shocked at the insensitivity that a person who works in the agricultural field would express such a bias so flippantly. What kind of professional decisions does this person make if their personal opinions are worn so visibly on their sleeves.

As producers of food in this supposedly forward thinking world, I think we have a large hill with many barriers to climb.

So true. I have many meat-eating colleagues who are horrified at my choices. Erm, hello? I really don't mind that they make their choices, but seriously - they're no longer 5 years old, they really need to know what the original purpose of that juicy steak was. Of course, I live in a fairly urban area, so I'm not surprised that they're so disconnected.
