One of the auction does we purchased over the weekend, is a NZW doe, and we'd like to see if we can get her through quarantine, to add her to our rabbitry. She is in kinda rough shape though, she had a stressful day the day of the auction, it was 95 degrees, and she was in this teeny tiny cage with another rabbit, in a barn with no air flow........with a cob of field corn to eat! :x I've given her some probiotics, and she's on free choice hay, with pellets and water.

I noticed her pellets are oddly small for a mature doe, and then noted that her cage floor is covered with pellets with fur in them, hanging from underneath the cage floor. I assume she's dealing with lots of fur in her system, so the hay is doing it's job. What else can I do for her though, other than hay, to help this fur issue?

What a great link, thanks MSD! :) I've got bananas, and I've got some frozen pineapple juice in the freezer that we juiced a couple weeks back. Will get that to her this morning yet. Thanks! :goodjob:

Papaya has been a life saver with my wooly bunnies on occasion ...

glad you caught it

I used to give my Jersey Wooly papaya and pineapple pills religiously. I think they really did help!

I like to keep different fresh juices and fruit chunks in the freezer for making smoothies, and I have pineapple juice and chunks on hand. I used to have the papaya tabs too, but I never reordered when I ran out. I gave her a frozen pineapple juice cube, and the piece of banana. It's 93 out, so I'm sure she's enjoying the frozen juice. She won't eat with me watching, she doesn't trust me yet, so I'll go out, and check on her in a bit. After I gave her the treats, I came in, and made myself a pineapple/peach/orange/banana smoothie! I'd say that's a win win situation!

The floor is even more littered with hairy pellets, so hopefully all of this will help to work it out, I'd hate to lose her now after everything she had to endure.

The hay seems to be pushing things through nicely! I'm sure she will enjoy her popsicle! :icecream:

We keep frozen fruit for smoothies too! We put vanilla yogurt, rice milk, and wheat germ in ours, in addition to berries and fruit . Yum!

I'm a smoothie junkie lately, and usually make one after chores every morning! I mean, why not! It's all natural fruit, it's good for you, and it's my way to get my daily fruit servings in. It's really cured my sweet cravings too, and helped me kick the diet soda habit! I used to be a diet soda junkie, but not any more! Now it's only once in a while when we go out for dinner or something.

I also make a spinach smoothie that I really like, it's got fruit in in, roasted almond butter, and all the vitamins and minerals in the spinach really is good for you in the morning. It's all part of hubby and I trying to eat healthier. :D

With my lion heads, I've stuck with hay. They both love their hay and it has helped pass any hair that they have ingested.

Knock on wood, no wool block.

Karen

Looks like we might be out of the woods with the wool block issue, hardly anymore hanging pellets! Yay! :bunnyhop: She's eating much better now too.

Glad she is doing better. Thanks for posting about Wool Block. I didn't even know it existed.

This time of year is bad for shedding/molting. Lots of our bunnies losing TONS of fur. I use a spiral curry comb like for a horse on mine to quickly rid them of all the excess fur....
