Willow leaves--could you make your own pellets?

Our rabbits are doing really well on servings of willow leaves. Since the protein level is so high, I am wondering how I could harvest fresh leaves and process into a form that allows for storage without degradation of the protein.

Possible?

I just cut the whips, with leaves, and air-dry them. They keep very well as long as they don't get damp.

When you guys talk "willow", which type(s) are we talking about? Weeping willow, basket, etc. Is there one that's better than others?

I use weeping willo - it's the only one I seem to have access too

As far as I know you can use any true willow... silex species. I use mainly weeping willow but also sometimes feed them the branches from the huge willows with cracked bark... not sure if they are crack willow or white willow... and I don't think it matters.

Just asking because some willows have more of the "aspirin" chemical than others under the bark, and a few other things. Thought maybe it made a difference

I have that "twisty Willow" It is a weeping form, is that ok?

I wish I could find some willow--any willow!

It may be too dry where you are, Trinity. Willows love moisture.

Lauren, do you have a botanical name for your twisty willow?
