Where have all the breeders gone?

This question may not really belong here but there's no breeding of rabbits if there are no rabbits to begin with!

My dilemma: all the breeders of Cals or NZWs I've contacted are: out of business, taking a break from rabbits, turn out to be people I'm not willing to work with or just don't respond!

Does anyone know of a good breeder in California? Or not too far from California? At this point a whirlwind rabbit retrieval road trip is sounding pretty fun!

Are you planning on showing at all, or selling stock as "meat pens" to fair kids?

I know a very good breeder of Cals, but her rabbits are not cheap... show stock runs at least $150 a head.

If you are looking for just a meat herd she may sell you stock that she would consider to be culls for less... I can find out how much something like that would run if you like. Let me know what you are looking for to start.

She is in Turlock- I believe you said that you are in central California?

haha I guess I don't know how to search for rabbits! It is a big state and I'm smack in the middle, or pretty close, Merced. Half of me does just want to go for a drive, rabbits would be a good excuse...er...reason :lol:

No plans to show or to sell stock at this point. If that changes it will be pretty far in the future; for now I'd be thrilled :mbounce: to get a meat herd from someone MSD considers a good breeder! Turlock would be just about perfect, a short 30ish minute drive.

I'd really appreciate it if you checked with her about her cull prices.

California? Gosh... there must be some out there... doesn't California have like the same population as all of Canada? LOL
Rabbits are always a great reason for a road trip

Just got back from vacation travels to the ILs in Oklahoma and wanted to says thanks to everyone for all the ideas and suggestions.
