I'm very new to raising meat rabbits. I breed my Californian doe with the new zealand buck in the evening of August 31st around 7 pm or so. She is 100% for sure pregnant. As of today she is not nesting, pulling fur or anything. She is laying on her side today. When should I expect the babies? Thank you for helping me, its my first litter.

My rabbits usually go until day 31 or 32, and if I breed in the evening they kindle in the evening. Those bred in the morning usually kindle in the morning. Not always, but much of the time. :)

Some of our members have had does go to 40 days or more, but the outcome is usually not good.

Does she have plenty of hay to gather up to make her nest?

I have her all setup and ready to go with everything I think she will need. Thank you for answering my question. Its so exciting waiting for the 1st kits!!

I know! I have been breeding rabbits for several years now, and it is still exciting! :p

Sometimes inexperienced does will have their kits on the wire. I lost my very first litter that way, since when I found them they were cold and unresponsive.

However, cold kits are not necessarily dead. We have a saying here that kits are not "dead" until they are warm and dead... so if you find kits on the wire, pop them into your shirt so they can start warming up right away.

I take mine into the house and warm towels in the dryer, make a hollow in the towels for the kits and flip a fold of towel over them. I also close the door to the dryer to retain the heat, telling all family members that there are baby bunnies in there.

Hopefully your doe will do everything right, and you wont need this advice!

I'm not too terribly experienced, but I still watch and wait with every litter due! Good luck! Hopefully things will go well for her!!

They can build a nest and kindle in a pretty short amount of time... it's pretty amazing really.

Most of my first time moms don't do much nest building or fur pulling until the last minute :bash: Then when they have a clue they do it two weeks in and make me ponder the possibility false pregnancies.

She hasn't kindled yet. Maybe I was wrong about her being pregnant. I will wait another week and rebreed her. Im kinda sad!

They will keep you guessing, I know its disappointing tho, we are on baby watch here too. Shes not nest building at all, but I think I see babies moving in her belly....... I sure hope you get some soon!
