So Robins lionhead gave us 4 babies not sure what happen but 1 is left they all died the night they where born. He is nearly a week old and doing good. But we have decided to breed her back sooner. But when could i wean him by and have her bred back by. Well the soonest its safe by. Im thinking 3 weeks and wean him by 6 weeks or is that to close/ young?

I would breed back now. From my experience thats better odds of a bigger litter too. So bigger litter minus any peanuts might have.

Just nursing one kit wont put her down hardly. Lol but it will be one fatty kit :)

Ok so if i bred her know do i wean the older baby at 4 weeks? Or Like day 27 or some where close?

__________ Tue Dec 24, 2013 5:47 pm __________

Not sure what happen she had them a 9 pm put a heat lamp on them and by 7am 3 where gone i kindof worry i cooked them :( i thought it was going to get cold though the night and she had barley had any fur in there. By am she had a big ball of fur thought so no worrying about that know.

When a litter is small, and the mother is not losing condition, breed back ASAP- I have been making most of my decisions of when to breed based on the doe's condition, rather than the age of her litter.
now weaning, I can be pretty lenient on that-- I like letting the doe decide when she has had enough of her litter--I Like to encourage kits to accept a varied diet before they are fully off their mothers, as well. But then, that is a personal choice.

I have lost does when the kits were 4 wks old and the kits do fine. If it was me, and she is in good shape, I would breed her back right away and keep the kit on her til I put the nest box in which for me is 28 days. Of course everyone is different. :)

kit can be weaned anytime after day 17 (based on personal experience).
So I'd breed back immediately and wean the kit day 21. Move mom to a new cage OR move kit in with other young kits about the same age or younger

Ok thanks guys I bred her today to a Holland lop buck. We can't wait to see what they turn out to look like. Hoping by the time she weans the next litter we would have a lionhead buck for her.
