Hi I am new to this forum but have enjoyed it heaps already thanks its great just have one question as we decide if we will breed our rabbits or not. What will we get or possibly get if we cross a seal point pure mini lop with a broken charlie blue mini lop rabbit? thanks in advance

100% brokens, blacks guaranteed. The rest will depend what recessive genes the rabbits are hiding. If the seal carries dilute then blue is possible. If the blue carries rew or himi you could get sables. Broken sables are rather interesting and cute. Those are the most likely.

:welcome:

and

:yeahthat:

If you have any information on the colour of the rabbits parents or littermates it might help but with this crossing everyone will be broken and most likey blacks

i know the buck (seal point) both parents are seal point and one of the bucks litter mates is a REW. Not sure about the doe.

what happens if we use a dwarf self black buck instead of the seal point?

The sable point buck might carry REW and if the Charlie broken blue doe has this gene you could get broken sables or REW

A black buck to a Charlie broken blue will also produce mostly broken blacks unless he had a blue parent, then you should get 50% broken blue, if he had a blue sibling or grandparent instead there is a 25% chance of broken blues.

Would you be able to post pictures of your rabbits?

I checked out your pictures

Buzz the buck is a seal (or possibly a really dark Siamese Sable) so he has two (or one) of the shaded genes.

Misty the doe is a broken blue and might not be a Charlie but just a high white. Normally Charlie's don't have colour along their spines.

Nibbles the buck is a broken sable point and he might be a Charlie as I didn't see any colour on his back.

Unless there are hidden recessive genes like REW you will pretty much just get blacks and broken blacks with these two males and the doe.

Thanks you have been really helpful the doe and seal point or sable buck are still young so we will wait till they are old enough and see what we get.... :bunnyhop: it maybe a long wait for the kids they just want baby bunnies

what is the difference between a sable point and a seal point?

A seal has 2 sable genes that make it dark chocolate to black. A sable has a sable gene and a more recessive gene, himi or rew, that lightens the body to various shades of tan called sepia on most standards.

so our buck nibbles could be a broken sable with a recessive gene or possible charlie or is it a seal point.? see photos above the breeder told us it was a seal point

what is the difference between a sable point and a seal point?
the term "seal point" is not normally used but can describe a sable point that has two shaded genes and are darker than sable points with one shaded and recessive like himilayan or REW. Sometimes sallanders are called seal points, if Nibbles had any chinchilla coloured relatives its a possibilty he is sallander but since he has so much white on him its hard to tell from the picture :(

Sable points (and sallanders) are non-extension so basically are shaded (or chinchilla'd) torts.

The term "sable" is used as a short form for Siamese sable which are basically shaded selfs. A self blue shaded is called "smoke pearl" in most breeds

If the OP is from the UK or Australia, seal point is the BRC recognized term for what ARBA/US breeders call sable point.
