Hi all,

I found this rabbit in my driveway and nobody claimed him/her so I kept it. I've been trying to identify the breed but I could use a little help. To me it looks like a Smoke Pearl Point Lionhead, but I know nothing about rabbits. Thanks!

Hi DustyButtons!

:welcomewagon:

That is a very nice Lionhead! :p

:congratulations: on the find!

Have you checked the left ear for a tattoo? It looks too well bred not to have one. Sometimes breeders use a specific prefix to indicate their rabbitry name, so you might be able to find the breeder if he/she has one.

Who would just dump that rabbit? Seriously!!!

That may be the biggest mane I've seen on a lionhead.

I don't think he was dumped..more than likely an escapee... I would check for a tattoo like Mama Sheepdog suggested..maybe even run an ad..Ya know something like....found rabbit call to identify... that one is pretty distinct..And quite striking...
I don't know where he is but here lion heads go for upwards of 50. For pet and 80. For pedigree..

I am going to second checking for tattoos and placing an ad. That rabbit looks REALLY clean and healthy, as well as unmatted and well groomed. That doesn't look like a neglected rabbit, so while it could have been dumped it wasn't long ago and it was obviously well cared for to that point and that good care makes me think more along the lines of escape than abandonment.

Good points, everyone... that rabbit is WAY too clean to have been living "wild and free" for long.

Escape or "liberated"..... yep, makes more sense than dumped. I just couldn't picture someone releasing that bun.

Completely off topic but one of my 4-H friends broke up with her boyfriend and to get back at her he snuck into her barn one night and let her rabbits loose :(

Thankfully all but one was caught the next day and the one (a broken smoke Pearl) was discovered a month later by a friend attending a party at the ex-boyfriends cousins house ;)
