What does it mean when someone says a rabbit is "Smutty"?

Smutty means the rabbit is not clean in color, it has a dirty look to it. They will have ticking where they are not supposed to; smut. Reds and sable points often have smut. It is not ideal or wanted on show rabbits or breeding rabbits usually, although I can't think of any breed/color where smut is a good thing off the top of my head.

Smutty fawn angora buck. Not a particularly good photo but he has a grey sooty cast to his head and wool in general.
