What do you make of this disease/injury?

My daughter just noticed this strange growth/injury on one of our ~4 week old SF buns. It's behaving normally. There is no evidence of profuse bleeding, and none of the other rabbits have any similar issues. For now it's quarantined.

It looks like a wound- notice there are two nearly parallel scratches above the area of exposed tissue?

Is there anywhere that the kit may have wedged its nose and in pulling free tore the skin off?

I suppose it's possible. I'll keep an eye on it for a few days. Do you think I can return it to its litter mates?

I think it's a wound too. Maybe from a predator or another rabbit.

I think you would be safe to put him back. I would spray the wound with Blu-kote or Vetericyn, and watch for flies laying eggs on it.

Also, put out rat traps ... that is a bite wound and you may have rats/skunks/raccoons visiting at night. It should heal up on it's own, and the poor little one will always have a hairless scar on his nose
