Since my two 'female' bunnies had a litter of two kits, I've now been intrigued in how the whole genetics work regarding litters, and I've fallen in love with the two as they've grown and absolutely adore them now.

However, I'm curious to know what other colours I could get out of my two does and my buck.

My two does - one a fawn and, as I have recently discovered, one a chocolate (not black  ), are both from the same parents (their dam being fawn, and their sire being chocolate)
My buck's official colouring is still unknown to me, as I posted a photo of him and received several different answers from chinchilla, to blue agouti.

Anyway, here are my two kits from my chocolate doe. I'm wanting to know their colours now they are three weeks old, and also what other offspring colours she may produce with my buck.

I'd say it's fawn

Bred to your buck you'll likely get chestnuts.

It depends on what recessive genes they both carry, if they match up you might get black or blue, chinchilla or fawn and other possibilities

Orange agouti?

And your buck looks like blue agouti to me.

Oh... I see Dood has commented. He would be the one to listen to. He knows his stuff. :)

Hi! and welcome to the site.

I'd say the little bun is a fawn. A bit darker on top and lighter (whiter) towards the bottom. That said I really don't know what you'd get if crossed to the chin buck. Maybe Zass of Dood will chime in. They are more into the genetics thing than I am.

Re: fawn vs orange
I think this is a case where different breeds and countries use different names for the same thing and the same name for different things, so its no wonder google was confusing. (Dood, for my education, by fawn do you mean A_C_D_ee or A_C_ddee? My guess would be the former.)

Re: likely offspring when crossed with your buck
If I've interpreted this thread correctly then your buck's parents were "white/pale grey and grey mother". This makes me think the buck's sire was something like this:
(more pics of rabbits with this genotype here)
... in which case the chances of fawn are good (25% 50% chance for each kit).

Edit: Changed image from a rex example to a non-rex one.
Edit: Corrected brain failure. 50% not 25%

Yes, his dad looked like that, excuse my lack of knowledge in colouring  but the dad definitely wasn't a REW or BEW, I guess your photo assumption is close enough :)

So you're saying the chances of getting fawn offspring out of my grey buck and this fawn kit would be 25%?

Given your grey buck's sire looked like that* then yes. Everything I can think of that looks similar has the same 25% 50%** chance.

* Clicking the thumbnail gives a larger image - in case you hadn't noticed.
** Oops, total brain failure. 50% not 25%.

Thanks for that!
