She looks more blue/grey than brown and she seems a bit dark on the body for a sable point so I think she is a smoke pearl but the lighting in the picture could be making her look that way.

A picture in natural light on a slightly overcast day would show her true colours better.

Color of parents?

She could be a dark/smutty blue point (dilute sable point). I once bought a doe labelled as a sable point, then wondered about her color for a long time... people said smoke pearl, and she resembled one, but it wasn't possible out of her parents. Recently I put the pieces together and she was actually a blue/dilute sallander. She looked exactly like this one.

Also, I see white on the nose. Is she VM?

Hi Thanks for the help. Yes she is a VM. The lady that sold her said she could be a smutty sable point but she is blue toned. I will try to take a picture of her outside and see how that comes out. I will post her parents colors from the pedigree too. Thanks for all the help

__________ Thu Apr 25, 2013 6:04 pm __________

Hi again.
Ok here are outside pictures. I think she is a smutty sable point too but like I said I am new to this and the breeder I got her from was questioning her color a little too. Her sire is a BEW and her dam is a Blue. She has a lot of BEW's and some chocolate and blacks in her pedigree. I am including a picture of my buck too. He is a sable point and there is a difference between the two.

She certainly looks like a shaded blue to me. Having a BEW father is no help since he could be any colour under the white.

The difference between a smoke pearl and blue point is the smoke pearl is full extension like blacks and chocolates while blue point is non extension so with her ancestry I am leaning towards smoke pearl.

You'll just have to see if you get sable points or seals and Siamese sables when bred to your buck.

Her coat is cream underneath (all threw her back and sides) I just blew on her lol. So that means non extension? Sorry I am still learning all the terms. I am going to breed her this weekend and keep my fingers crossed. My buck does not have BEW in his lines which I am not looking to get anyway, I am hoping to get sable points. Thanks for your help again.

Non extension also turns blacks to tortoiseshell, chinchilla to frosty/ermine and chestnut to fawn so in a sable point it gives them a lighter body colour by limiting how far up the hair shaft the black pigment extends.

The fact she is lighter underneath and darker at the ends makes me think she is in fact a smoke pearl. But you can still get sable points but you could also get some seals and Siamese sables.

A Siamese sable would be great. I know my buck has that in his pedigree.. :) One of my mini rex had one baby and it is either a smoke pearl or sable I can't tell yet the baby is only 2 weeks old. But very unique looking.

I know, I like those shadeds too! What color is your buck?

__________ Thu Apr 25, 2013 7:00 pm __________

Oh wait, you already said that he was a sable point! :)

Your buck looks more smoke pearl to me than the doe. If he is out of siamese sables than that is more of a possibility for him.He is not sable point, but your doe is. Is there a possibility also that this doe is chocolate based? She looks like a smutty sable point to me too but perhaps a chocolate?
