I'm posting pictures of a fatty and his littermate. The color in question is the fatty, he's got a white belly, but body color is the same as his sibling, who looks like the ones that grow up to be steels, but genetically, a steel cannot have a white belly, right? So what is Fatty? I would like to keep him/her.

A chestnut? What about a steel otter? Is that possible?

I thought maybe a steel otter, but then I was talking to some folks and the steel and otter genes don't work out together. A steel otter has steel where an otter would have white.

Um. Um. So I officially really want steels. :p

Stop trying to convince me to build hoop houses to have more holes with your adorable rabbit pictures! -throws sunflower seeds at Cattle Cait and Dood-

-closes eyes and in a Mr. Potato Head voice- I will stick to castor MR and American Sable. I will stick to castor MR and American Sable. I will...build a hoop house so I can have more than nine holes...

Oh, darn it. CC, send me that steel chin naow. I don't care how far away you live. I need it. ;)

__________ Tue Jul 23, 2013 2:02 am __________

And as far as I'm aware, a chestnut steel is A_ B_ C_ D_ Es_ and a chinchilla steel is A_ B_ cchd_ D_ Es_. Dood, do you need two copies of Es or just Esej or Ese? And does one look better than the others?

'EsE'or 'Ese' the other combinations will create some unexpected results.

The E-locus doesn't follow most of the dominant - recessive rules :D

'EsEs' will give you a self looking rabbit (so black, chocolate, blue [this was a VERY dark rich blue colour] or lilac selfs) Site discussing double streel/false self problem in Frech Lops http://kirstylops.m.webs.com/site/mobil ... rk=fw#2010

'Es ej' will also create a self looking rabbit but mine had faint collars of brown ticking around their necks as kits but it shed out to self black.

'ej' is not entirely recessive to 'E' and will harlequinized castors/chestnuts, chinchillas and any rabbit will full extension and a harlequin gene. - post with pics 3/4 down post171824.html?hilit=Harlequinized#p171824
