I would just like to remind everyone that rabbit colour is not an exact science. There are many modifers and colour genes that are not fully understood or yet to have names.

Here are a couple examples of wonky colours that can show up in a litter. The two chestnut and older chinchilla were added for comparison and are not litter mates.

The does were both American Chinchilla's who carry dilute/blue and have never had "weird" coloured kits before they were bred to their half brothers son from an un-related doe.

One doe 'may' have been bred by my gold tipped steel NZ cross but typically only has chestnuts, chinchilla, gold tip steel and silver tip steel when mated to him and none of my does has ever had an opal, which is what I think the one kit is.

I have a squirrel (AKA blue chinchilla) coloured AmChin doe and she looks nothing like the washed out kit. I believe he may be some sort of frosty but seems too dark, perhaps he is the seldom mentioned "medium chinchilla"

I really have no clue as to what happened this time, the new AmChin buck (these were his first two litters) has 2 other litters of perfectly normal looking AmChin kits, but they are only a week old so that may change :D

The first two pictures are chinchilla (11weeks) and I believe medium chinchilla and opal (4 weeks) then chestnut (8 weeks).
The second two pictures are chestnut (13 days) ?sooty medium chinchilla?(10 days) and chinchilla (10 days)

Wow that is weird. Isn't it true that the "C series" is codominant? Which would mean that 2 different alleles can be showing at the same time... resulting in really strange colors.

I have heard of the shaded gene/chinchilla light ( cchl) in the 'C' series bring co-dominant (for example: a seal is a sable with two cchl genes) but not the other 4 colours in the locus.

I think it is.
Like sable magpie's for example, they have sable point and magpie markings combined.
Similar to a torted harlequin.

Like my Cal Martens. From a doe that carries self, you would have though I would have gotten at least one regular Cal.
