Oreo, our calmest and sweetest Bun had a litter today! She seems to have only had 2 though...Is that normal....I have felt all around in the nesting box, and haven't felt any others. It's actually a nesting tunnel about two feet long, she made her nest deep in the box, but the kits were covered with hay closer to the opening to the main cage. I moved them back into the hole where she had all her hair plucked.....I was worried they may nudge their way to the wire where they were? This cage also houses another Doe, do I need to worry about her? It's a large area....4x4 under shelter, 4x8 open pen, and they each have a nesting tunnel that is 2 ft deep 1 ft wide and tall off the sheltered area.... I've been reading all night to keep updated...do you have any advise what the next few days will bring? I'll post pics tomorrow, if everything is ok....too late tonight..

I have question??????? This morning I went out to check on the kits....they were buried deep under hay? the box is 12x12x24, As I said before, I moved them to the back of the box where "the nest" was. I nice hole with fur. This morning it's as if she shoveled and packed all the hay in the box 12x12, like a solid cube, the babies snugley in the middle...Is THIS NORMAL? Their bellies did appear round, no wrinkles, so it seems as though she fed them last night. I'm just making sure this is the norm and I shouldn't tear into the nest and FREE them....will she find them? there is no hole to them...just layers and layers of hay? she has them packed in about 8 inches deep.....anyone?

She is hiding them, keeping them safe. I would continue to check on them, but not worry. The doe will get to them to nurse.

Did you build your nesting boxes with a hinged lid? You might want to consider that so you don't have to go through her hay plug just to check the babies :D

Congratulations on a successful kindling!

Also, the hay plug might be that thick to keep the other doe out, too. Not that the other doe has tried anything, just nature's way.
