Hi im after a bit of advice. Colour genetics is a mind blowing subject!
I have seen a sooty fawn Vienna marked doe for sale, BEW x Blue Split.
Would she be suitable for breeding? I don't want to encourage colours that are not desirable.
Thanks x

Whether the color is desirable depends on the breed. Only some allow bew. Some don't even allow blue.

Hi,
Shes a mini lop. I have been trying to get to grips with genetics, and I dont want to be encouraging the 'wrong' thing :)
Thanks

VM is not acceptable here in the states in any breed. You would need to get a copy of the standards for mini lops in the UK- unless one of our members happens to know, of course! :)

:welcome: to RT, by the way!

I don't believe bew is accepted in mini lops but I don't deal with that breed. Of course anything that has white markings that is not full bew (the vm offspring) will not be show quality and can only be used for breeding more bew. They do sell well as pets though.

I belive BEW mini lops are excepted. So if you are looking to breed BEWs she would be great. Don't mix her with solid colored rabbits though. She will produce half Vienna marked/Vienna carriers and half solids and you won't know if you have a solid or Vienna carriers. Then you may get Vienna marks when you don't want them and they will be unshowable.
