Guineas and close neighbours don't mix well, the guineas are NOISY
Nope....that wouldn't set well with neighbors. Just a suggestion..didn't know you lived in the city.

Good luck w/solving your tick problems. Never had to deal with them and I live in the country. But, I've got several old hens free roaming and they are bug-eatin' fools. Plus, I've got an old bachelor peacock that puts a hurtin on bugs.

The dogs will get an occasional one, but not very often.

grumpy.

Just an update - I did 2 applications of DE - 3 days apart. I haven't seen any further issues with the rabbits. I'll continue to keep you updated if I have any further bug issues. However, I've been very happy with the DE. I got out a big plastic tote (like the kind you put those ugly sweaters in that you don't wear) and I'd put a rabbit in, and I'd pour the DE right on top and sort of shake them up . . . reminds me of a commercial - "It's shake & bake momma! and I helped!"

My beautiful californians came out looking almost like chinchilla breeds. :D The rabbits didn't seem to mind too much. Plus, the DE works as a mild abrasive - so their coats after losing the DE dust after a few days have actually looked much brighter.

Shake-and-bake bunnehs!
I just put a little DE in my hand (1 tsp?) and rubbed it in. You don't need very much for it to be effective.

my neighbors already are having to deal with my rabbits, I'd never get away with guineas
As far as some birds, I have 4 bantam chickens that would love to help you with your ticks and they would be quiet about it! :)

I dont know if bunnies can have garlic but we feed garlic to our horses, dogs and cats to help repel the ticks. Ticks are a huge problem here.

Hello and welcome. Don't worry about being chided about eating rabbits, most people here eat their rabbits, I am one of the few who doesn't, only because I hate cooking anything, veggie or meat.
Ticks are bad this summer, lots are complaining about them. I live in the city proper, so I don't know if I've ever seen a tick, my biggest problems are flies and biting fruit flies. Almond oil is a natural repellent, not sure if it's safe for rabbits. Maybe you can just use one of those backyard foggers?
I would not use anything toxic to fog the whole backyard, because the bunnies in the tractor are supposed to eat the grass and we dont want to poison them. I think diatomaceous earth is probably the safest as it is organic and not a poison. Food companies even use it (food grade of course) for flour & rice intended for human consumption.
