looks like a booted to me. I have a new Zealand red that is booted, he is marked the same way as yours.

I think it's just a booted broken.
His color is interesting too, i think it's seal.

I don't have a lightly patterned buck. I have a solid red and a REW. I still have after the summer till she is old enough to breed (and the weather is cool enough.) Any idea what I would get if I crossed her to a solid red?

Because she has the broken gene 50% of her kits will get it, they may be booted like her or have a typical broken pattern or both :D

It is difficult to see what colour she is from the picture. Does she look black or dark chestnut?

Either way you are likely to mostly get chestnuts if bred to a red buck. If she is a steel chestnut (gold tipped steel) then 50% of the kits should get it and be gold tipped steels as well.

We don't know what hidden recessives she and the buck carry so you may get some other colours as well.

I would say she almost looks like a really dark agouti or white tipped dark brown/black on the back. Her stomach is definatly broken black. I have never seen an agouti New Zealand so this might not be the best doe to be breeding except as meat/pet. I was told she was a broken black with extra color but didn't realize the 'booted' issue.
Guess i should have passed on her but the person didn't have any really good looking broken blacks from that litter. Just glad I didn't get a buck and decided to go with a red one instead. Guess I am back on the search for a broken black doe.
