My ND doe is in labor again, and looks like try number 2 is going to be a failure  Nutmeg has been in labor for an hour now, and so far nothing. I am betting she is going to have a bunch of stuck kits again, and now I dont even have a buck for a third try, even if i did I dont think she is built to have kits. I guess we will see what happens but I told the kids not to get there hopes up, more than likely we will not be having babies that are live.

So far she doesnt seem to be too stressed, she pushes a couple of times, then she eats some pellets, then she sits still for awhile, sometimes cleaning her face, then a couple of big pushes again ect...ect...ect... Right now she is pushing while eating  this doe is going to make me gray prematurely!

so far nothing yet. I got some tea, fed her tums and fresh sage. last time it took almost 3 days. She is still eating and pulling fur, doesnt seem to be too stressed at this point. oh an can still feel movement so at least some of the babies are alive still

I realize its now Saturday evening and this is probably not going to help in this particular case, but just to put the knowledge out there, I used to keep oxytocin on hand for slow deliveries. It helps to cause contractions and speeds up the delivery process. I was able "back then" to get it fairly inexpensively from my vet and keep it on hand for just such situations.

It also helps if you feel the afterbirth has not been delivered. With rabbits this is not such a big problem, but with horses, dogs, etc it helps. It is also supposed to help bring in milk.

I hope your doe gets it together and delivers soon, and makes it thru this. My suggestion, if you decide to keep and rebreed her, would be lots and lots of exercise. It sounds as if she may be too fat, or have fatty deposits around her uterus or vaginal walls.

here is the update for today. Still no babies, she is still occasionally having contractions, and I dont feel any movement from the babies anymore. Her stomache and vulva area has a dark liquid on it, almost black. I am afraid I may have to cull her. For now she is still eating and drinking, and doesnt act like she is in any pain.

If she does make it i am not going to rebreed her she will just be a pet.

She could just be too narrow. Dwarf breeds tend to have problems with kindling live litters, sometimes taking 3-4 tries.

If, I do say if, does are like dogs once you see a dark discharge you are in immediate danger of losing the kits and the doe.

I have cairn terriers, which breed naturally quite well, but the last time we bred our foundation bitch she had a singleton and could not give birth because the pup was so big. After we saw the green/black discharge we rished to the vet, had to have a c-section, and still almost lost pup and mom.

Keeping my fingers crossed for your doe and kits.

I will keep this in mind. When my mini Rex doe died, there was no discharge. It took four days to pass the kits, the discharge looked normal, and then she died shortly afterwards.

If you haven't started the lavender/massage thing, this is a good time to try.

Last night she had 1 kit, dead of course nothing since then. I know she still has at least 2 that i could feel in there. SHe is laying down more today, not as active, and not really eating much either. I am going to continue to massage her periodically and try to get her toeat some more sage and force more raspberry down her but it looks like i may have to put her down soon

Oh no...is this the doe you got from Suzy? Have you called her to let her know what is going on? I was just talking to her the other night and she is just so nice. She said if she sells something as breeding stock and it doesn't produce she will replace it. I'm not sure if that only goes for proven animals or not. Either way, I'd let her know about the situation.

Poor little Nutmeg! I am so sorry. :( It must be very difficult to watch a doe go through something like that. ((Hugs))

I haven't had any trouble with my Rex, but I hope when my Jersey Woolys are bred I don't have the same problem.

I hope she pulls through for you. :clover:

Yes it is the doe we got from Suzy, and no I havent told her yet.I dont blame her and didnt even think about having her replaced.

She had another kit this morning, and really seemed to perk up after that, not sure if it is because she delivered another one or because I was making her drink rasberry tea but she is cleaning herself and eating again. SHe still has at least 1 more in her, I am going to continue to message her and give her tea. Hopefully she will make it through ok.

I would definitely let Suzy know. If nothing else just to get her opinion on it and see if she's had this trouble with any of the others out of that line. I wonder if Nutmeg is related to the chestnut doe I got from her?

There have been a couple occasions that I was sure there was one more kit and there really wasn't. I think it takes the uterus a bit to go completely down to size. Maybe she's done and that's why she perked up. I hope so!

I will let her know.

Her parents are P.A's YL and Suzy's Wylie.

She had a kit sticking out of her when I woke up this morning, which looked smaller than the first 2 she delivered. hopefully she is done now. I gave her more tea and a small peice of bread with some mollasses on it last night before I went to bed. She looks good today so far. She has really cleaned herself up, and ate all her food, and her tums.
