I need to know what drugs to buy, how much to give for how long and where to buy the drugs.
Coccidiosis is what I need to find a treatment for.
Please do not link me to other threads, I've seen them and people tend to argue and the threads close without anything fully being said about treatment.

Drug name
How much daily
How many days
When, if at all, to repeat
Where to buy, online link or if tsc has it

Don't need anything else, no arguing, etc. Thanks.
Ive searched some on tsc and they seem to no longer carry what they used to...

I have a chicken and aquatics medicine cabinets, so I do have some drugs on hand.
Found a new, never opened bottle of Sulmet. Says it expired January of this year....can I still use it or search for a new bottle??

__________ Wed Apr 10, 2013 8:03 pm __________

I read to put rabbits in cages for treatment, is that so old poops aren't eaten? How long do poops have to sit before they are safe?
Found this for Sulmet.
.5cc per pound for the first day, and .2cc per pound for days 2-5

use the sulmet. should work just fine.

I found that a two week treatment protocol worked best.

You'll want to THOROUGHLY clean the area your rabbits were in. Coccidia lives in the ground for quite a long time I've been told. Compost all your poop. Don't let it sit there.

So that would mean pasturing is no more for this year?
I can bleach cage daily and return the rabbit.

The sulmet says to not use on laying hens, meat is ok after withdraw, but I guess it stays in the eggs forever?? It's why I never used the bottle. Can I use the stuff I have??

Chickies, use ammonia on the cages- it is the only (?) thing that kills the eggs.

Most medications have a longer shelf life than what is listed on the bottle. As long as you have stored it in a cool dark place, it should be fine. I believe most meds only lose potency over time, so a larger dose may be needed. I would not worry about that with a medication that is only a few months past expiration.

You might want to google the active ingredient to be safe though- some meds undergo chemical changes after a certain period of time which can cause them to be harmful.

It will be in the cleaning aisle of most any store- grocery, Walmart, pharmacy, etc.

Do NOT under any circumstances, mix it with bleach! It creates toxic fumes which can kill you. :x

Also, do not be tempted to put your nose to the bottle to smell it- you'll be sorry! Trust me- it vaporizes readily and you will smell it soon after taking the cap off of the bottle.

I don't smell bottles, but ok! =D

I must just be strange that way then!

Thankfully, I haven't done it with ammonia since my mom cleaned with it when I was a kid, but it is definitely something that you do not want to take a big whiff of. ;)
