Actually, a "dongle" is a device that plugs into your computer and starts up an application. Think digital camera.

Always liked Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie Barker (sadly departed). We played this video for my SIL and FIL - they loved it!

Yeah, I know, but the way they borrow the term is rather risque. There are also "dongles" to get around copy-protection schemes. I plan to get one so that I can transfer a bunch of old VHS tapes to DVD (for personal use).
