My friend gave me three castrated goats as a wedding present. Haven't been able to pick them up until today, mainly because I had no safe place for them. Now that my baby is gone, I decided to use their dog yard for the goats. They'll be in there while everyone gets used to each other, to deworm them and to get them to eat down the yard for us.

The two small ones are twins. The big one is the most people friendly. Met the cat and all three dogs. Chillie wanted to say hello, goats said no, Chillie wanted to nip, lol. LGD Pup barked, but chilled out when I let her in and told her not to be an *ss. Bella was very curious, but didn't have a leash near by, so didn't let her in with them. Plus, I don't trust that dog with anything, she also doesn't listen at all once she is in kill-mode. Kitty did fine with them, too.

Wow, pure ND's too. That is nice. You should be grateful, lol!

Check eyelids, and see if their poop is the same as a healthy rabbits' poop would be. You can worm with cattle ivermec, but you'll have to ask me to find the dosages. Have your dogs possibly pooped out any worms in the yard?

Waaaiiit... one looks part Pygmy, now full though.

Yea, poops look like my sheep's poops, not as dry as rabbit poop.
The goats have never been wormed and out with a lot of animals, pigs, goats, near cattle, chickens, etc. But I need to worm them before I put them with my other animals either way.
They are castrated, doesn't matter what breed they are after that happens.

Haha, I suppose it doesn't. But they are cute! Good poop.... eyelids will be light pink if they have blood sucking worms, it is very good to worm them routinly though.

Very cute goats! What a fantastic wedding gift.

It's hard to tell from the pics, but the smallest of the twins looks like he might have a "fish tail". He might need some copper.

The hair on the tip of their tail splits in two due to the loss of fur inbetween. Caused by copper deficiency.

Not really sure, goat butts are ugly to look at, being all naked and all.
They'll be getting copper bolus 2x a year just to make sure they are getting enough. I can't leave out any mineral with a high amount of copper, since my sheep might get to it and that wouldn't be good.
They slept by the gate, found them chilling this morning, big goat say me in the bathroom window and called out quietly...It was a bit creepy, lol. I have to make them some kind of thing to jump on, tried to make them something yesterday, but found out the plywood is way too weak to hold them up.

Lol... unfortunately goat behinds are a type of thing you need to stare at in certain occasions... you would be very surprised at how many I've checked twice a day.

Copper boluses are not needed... says my vet... but loose minerals containing high copper are.

Yes, I know, but I will never bring in high amounts of copper. I have sheep and high amounts of copper are deadly to them. They will get the copper pill 2x a year.
There are 22# mix mineral blocks in the barn, they have some copper in them. So the pill is just a safety net.

:) When we had sheep & goats we put the goats up every night so they got copper in their stalls. You can also build something high for the goats to jump on and the sheep won't. Then you can place copper there.

I wouldn't put out loose minerals with sheep, either. Too much of a chance. Try this- Replamin Plus.

She castrated blue eyed bucklings?!

So?
Just having blue eyes doesn't mean it's worth breeding. Most animals shouldn't be bred, they aren't good enough or no where for them to go. There's already way too many goats in the market.
She got them to eat her grass and because the 'breeder' was having trouble. Goats weren't really supposed to be bred, they just suddenly had more goats on some mornings, I believe.
Didn't think blue eyed goats were special. Rather have a blue eyed Chinchilla rabbit, but most people are hating on them and trying to breed 'true' chins with just brown eyes. meh

They did well in the car, laid down for most of the trip. Much better than most dogs and cats, that's for sure...

Yes, but they are worth a lot of money if someone decides, "Ohhh... blue eyes!".

There are way too many cross bred goats on the market. I wouldn't go as far as to say MOST animals absolutely shouldn't be bred... A lot of them should.

You can easily get 300.00 for a Blue Eyed Purebred buckling I've heard.

But I'm not going to spoil your happiness or anything, I just find it crazy when people castrate valuble animals. As long as they are going to a responsible person I guess it doesn't matter if they are castrated or not.

No, a lot of mutty, poorly bred blue eyed or other 'special' animals sell for a ton of money. It wouldn't of been smart to not castrate them. Just because it might be worth a lot, doesn't mean it conforms to standards/built healthy and worth keeping intact. As a responsible breeder or even pet owner, you need to castrate/eat badly bred animals. Many goats sell for $50 or 150. Quality goats easily go for $250-300 regularly.
Not ruining my happiness, not really happy about goats, lol. What am I supposed to do with them? I don't show, I guess I could take them to the store on a leash....But these are like 3 very calm and quiet dogs, so....I'm happy about that, lol.

Actually, I'm very happy about them not screaming like goats in Youtube videos do or escape and sit on my car...lol

__________ Tue Aug 27, 2013 1:27 pm __________
