I have just learned a hard lesson about tattoos and showing.

1.... Do NOT use the letter S or the number 5 in a tattoo. they look too similar.

2... given a choice of snail mail Or emailing an entry... Email it... then the tattoo will be typed and readable.

We just got our show results from a recent show. One of our Palomino does won best opposite sex in Both shows. I was so pleased for her... until looking at the report... the ear number was 25 rather than 2S .

I had not noticed that the ear number was incorrect on the show's paperwork. The judges read it correctly...so i assumed it was right. Plus i was racing around putting rabbits up on the table, and returning others to the carriers.

Now we have a lovely doe who Did win... but now has two unusable legs.... booooooo!

( once judging is complete, and the reports mailed out...no corrections can be done. :( )

RR, does she have other legs already? Could you re-tattoo the S and change it to a 5?

Can the tattoo get inked over?

Not really... she was just registered at the last show... 2S . If i had not done that Before i got the show report... then perhaps it could have been done.

What does 'get me' a bit... the judges read the tattoo as 2S ... the writers never questioned it...( nor did i....)

What a shame! No glory, but at least you know you have a very nice doe. :)

I have some 2s that I need to redo, because they look like Zs.

I guess the bottom line is to make sure to double check all of the info on the entries... and exaggerate any characters that resemble another letter or number when tattooing.

They are so similar, you could probably argue the case.

I hand wrote the entry to be able to mail it in. I really tried to exaggerate the curves of the S cuz i was afraid of it being a problem. the box for ear number is rather small... and trying to fit 4 letters/numbers in it makes things squishy.

But ... i have learned that i really do Not want to use SSSs in naming the rabbits. so no Suzies, no Snickers and no Snowflakes for us.... bummer !! :pancake:

Sounds like your doe's tattoo is now 25. ;) Just clap your hand over the mouth of anyone who says "looks like an S" from now on!

That's one of the things I really like about the Evan's program. You can print show entries out for email or email from the program itself and it's real easy to select the rabbits you want to show from the program. The program transfers all the pertinent information to the entry form. Great stuff.

Tiny Update !!!

don't know Why i didn't do this sooner... but i emailed ARBA last night...just got an answer today...

It Can and Will be corrected... so the legs can be used after all..... :mbounce:

Sometimes things Do work out ! :pancake:
