I've been doing some experimenting at the farm (surprise, surprise) still working on my meat rabbit bloodline. So far, so good! I'm learning quite a bit about color genetics, too. Here's my most recent litters:

Sire - Californian X Dam - Golden Palomino = 2 Blacks, 3 REW

Sire - Lilac (the breed) X Dam - Gold-Tipped Steel 25% Satin 25% Champagne 50% American Chinchilla = a bunch of Gold-Tipped Steels, a Chestnut, and a Black

Not quite as colorful as I was hoping :/

It is because the Cali doesn't carry the recessive for fawn and the gold tip steel doesn't have any of the lilac recessives.

Breed the lilacs daughter back to him and you could get chocolate agouti, opal, lynx, chocolate, blue, lilac as well was chestnut and black :) pretty much every colour under the sun except the shadeds and non extensions but you can add this gene by crossing in the palominos blood.

We ate him.

I had six bucks and bred the Lilac and the Cal to everything and then butchered them. No more Lilac...I have a Pal buck, an American Sable, and two American Chinchilla X Palomino boys - one Chinchilla and one Chestnut. If we keep anything it'll probably be a REW Pal/Cal kit because they're HUGE!

Well you have both the shaded genes as well

If you breed a lilac son to a lilac daughter you should get the colours I mentioned, especially if you breed a self(black) to one but you'll get more chestnuts and blacks in this crossing.

I must tell you that all day long, we have been giving each other pointed, embarrassed looks, and saying "We ate him ."

This is going to be a running joke at Chez MSD for quite some time. :p

Just wait till I tell the actual owner. She dropped him off at my house and said, "I'll come get him in a few weeks when I get a new place!"

A year later...

I can't wait 'til Hubs and Firstpup come home for lunch so I can share that juicy tidbit with them! :p

(Yes- pun intended!)
