Hello, wondering if anyone makes their own wire nests or other warm weather nests?
If so, could you guys post pics of them and what you used to make them?
I'm wanting to make some for early Fall and Spring, but not sure what to use or what they should look like.
Please don't tell me to search Bass or other equipment websites or Google it, I have.

I was told she was a nest eater, so don't put a new next in with her. So I made this out of leftover cage wire. bent the sides and bottom as one piece.

I wondered myself about taking out the wood bottom of my prefabbed nest box (TSC brand) and putting the 1/2x1/2" mesh wire in the bottom but I wasnt sure if that was a good idea.

I build all of my Wire nestboxes out of only Floor wire
1/2" X 1" regular cage wire 1" X 1" or 1" X 2" is too large
and the kits may crawl through it to their possible death.

Yes, I neglected to say that was left over floor wire. Please use left over floor wire.
I would have taken it out for a better pict be she is due today. Still no nest in it.

The breeder of my Beverens doesn't use any nest box in the summer. He just piles a bunch of hay in the corner. He said the does have their babies in the hay nest, not on the wire.

I don't know that I would try that, would be too afraid of babies on wire but it seems to work for him. I like the all wire nestboxes, very inventive for summer time.

I'm thinking of going with only wire nest boxes to try and prevent the accumulation of feces in the box while there are bunnies in it. Besides, the weather around here rarely gets cold enough to warrnt anything else, and they're bound to be cooler for the hot months like we're going through at this time of year.

I took an 18 inch square piece of wire - half by half inch - and cut three inch squares out of each corner. Then I bent the edges up to form a shallow wire pan. So far so good, the babies are kept in and Honey doesnt tip it over jumping in and out.

If she had been in one of my all bottom wire cages I would have left her nest in her hay pile but as she is in a cage with inch by inch wire, they were just in too much danger to leave them.

I LOVE the wire pan! Havnt lost one yet to heat stroke! Unlike my poor babies in teh wooden nest box where we lost two before we realized just how hot it was getting in there.

__________ Fri Jul 06, 2012 12:17 pm __________

Oh, forgot to say I put a J clip in each corner just to hold it in shape.
