I'm starting a new hospital band collection. My last collection 4 years ago made it to 8. So far this week I gained a white one and an orange one. It was proven that I am highly resistant to sedation and anesthesia which is nothing new. They gave one injected dose and nope not feeling anything. 2 doses, still not feeling anything, 3 doses and I might be a little tired, 4 doses and I was dazed and couldn't open my eyes but still aware of everything. Unfortunately that's where they stopped and I got to deal with the discomfort. I remember being held down a few times.

Nothing was found to stop my surgery so tomorrow I get fully put under (hopefully it works) while they remove a 2x6" section of affected tissue. The large pocket pressing on my spine has to be removed and cleaned out so the area can heal properly. Since they cut one large drain along my tailbone to get as much out as possible before surgery all my walking and lower back issues have improved or even gone away. Sounding more and more likely this will fix everything or at least just require some minor physical therapy to rebuild the muscles and flexibility.

Someone pick up my new rabbits waiting in Newark by chicago :p:

__________ Thu May 29, 2014 2:17 pm __________

Ow... Laying in hospital. "Breath in this oxygen". Why do I feel light headed? Then I was fighting to wake up in a large area with people walking around. " your surgery is done" surgery? I don't even know where I am. It hurts and I'm stuck on my side.

Glad to hear you are safely out of surgery!

I hope they can give you something to make you more comfortable. :clover:

But just think- once you are healed up, your back should feel so much better, and you wont be living with daily pain anymore. :)

So they did your surgery before you expected them to?

I'm glad your safely through it, and hope your recovery goes really well! It would be wonderful if you could tell us someday soon that you just don't have that pain anymore! :)

They didn't tell me they were ready to sedate at all. One min I was waiting for the surgeon while breathing oxygen and then I was waking up in the unfamiliar recovery area. Seriously messes with your head.

Do you know how tasty graham crackers are when nearing 20 hrs without food.

I wonder if they told you but you don't remember due to the sedation? I know that I generally don't remember a few hours before being put under fully for surgery. It's happened everytime I get put under and I also am hard to put under. Last time they had to keep dosing me and finally I had so much drugs in me that they had to intubeate (sp) me even though it's not normal for that procedure because I was not breathing due to the large dose of sedating drugs.

Hope you start feeling better.

And know what tastes better than graham crackers? BRAN MUFFINS. Normally I would not touch those with a 10 foot pole but for some reason it's the nector of the gods when coming out of surgery. lol

Yeah- I don't think they tell you to count backwards or anything anymore... they just sedate you without warning. No doubt the "oxygen" was spiked with anesthesia.

I don't know... I had a procedure done a few years ago and I remember being wheeled into the OR and listening to the nurses talking. It kind of surprised me that they were so rude as to talk like I wasn't even in the room. So, of course I joined in the conversation. :p I think they were pretty surprised because they thought I was already "out".

Supposedly they had to give me like 4 times the normal dosage. I remember the anesthesiologist seemed unduly concerned (and not a little surprised to see me awake and coherent!) when he came to check on me in the recovery room.

Like Akane, I was pretty surprised to find myself there, since they didn't tell me they were sedating me.

For the upper endoscopy they did yesterday it took 4 doses. They gave me the first and asked if I was sleepy. I looked around a bit and felt perfectly normal. Injection 3 I started to feel like closing my eyes.

So despite several conversations I have a dinner tray of dairy products for my lactose intolerance, some high fructose juice for my fructose malabsorption, and some black coffee for my insomnia and tachycardia. I'm gonna starve...

GAH! I know how that is! :x

Is there anyway the man, a friend, or a relative can bring you something edible?

I mentioned chicken strips when My husband left to check the dogs. Otherwise I'll have him go beg for some of the bread items on the menu. I did pack an emergency banana. It's just way over there

yay home! Except after making it up the 3 flights of stairs (back and butt muscles do not go up stairs when large chunks have been removed), changing my clothes, and laying down in my comfy foam bed... I now have to pee... :p: Hoping that double dose of codeine kicks in.

The hospital staff besides nurses set a new record for trying to kill me. The doctor used an outdated med list so I didn't have all my meds, the pharmacy insisted on giving a med I am wearing an orange band that says I should not take, removed the med, got it added again, called the doctor again, got the correct meds listed, and then the pharmacy decides my meds should be listed for twice daily instead of once. The night nurse just kind of threw up her hands and told me to refuse meds except codeine when they tried to give them to me the next morning. That on top of the food issues. Is there really any point to filling out the looooong list of paperwork that says all these things?

Boy, I'm glad you were coherent when they tried to give you the wrong meds. At least you could fend them off!

I'm glad you are home. :) Feel better soon!

Awww my wonderful family... I posted to facebook on May 1st that I got injured, shortly after that I posted I was going to have to have surgery, posted the day I was going to have surgery and got delayed, and then my husband posted when I got out of surgery. My stepmom responds with "What!!!! Would be nice if we were notified... thanks!". Due to being family I will do my best not to respond with equal sarcasm. I have a desire to delete it though. :p: My mom is coming to help clean but I'll likely get yelled at for having more animals than she thinks someone should have which is like 1 dog, 1 cat, and maybe a pair of guinea pigs or rabbits. Josh's dad may also be coming so maybe she will resist voicing her opinion and I can throw the 2 of them up as cannon fodder. It's not like I'm going to be in the same room helping clean.

Had some issues figuring out how to get up from our low platform bed and I think I pulled a stitch. I accomplished getting up today without doing more damage. I did get the "you have how many chinchillas?!" From my mom but then she just collected up stuff to take to the dumpster and left.

 your mom sounds like mine! A good way to get off a low bed would be to roll to the side so you can get your feet under you, using either the nightstand or dresser (which ever is closest) to help you straiten up. That was the only way I could get out of bed after they did my gall bladder surgery. Hope that it helps you to get up as well, without more stitches coming undone. Glad you are home where you are SAFE from wrongful medications.

Yay no more drain and half the stitches are gone. I'm no longer wishing for another broken leg instead. Seriously broken legs and crutches are far better than losing a chunk of your back and butt. :p: Apparently the high amount of pain was from him pulling the muscles together instead of just the skin after removing the bad tissue. He said there's more blood flow to the area and more stability in the stitches so it will heal faster but it makes for more pain and stiffness. I could probably stand to lay on my back now but I probably shouldn't. At least without the drain I can stuff pillows behind me to lean on and take the strain off my hips and knees.
