OKay, a week ago, Rudolph's Rabbit Ranch, here in Ohio, indicated the Buzzards have already made their presence known-- they are not supposed to be back until March 15th!!! wehave snowdropsin full bloom, and crocuses growing up so fast---even found some Narcissus popping up today.

what happened to winter? :?

SHH,
don't complain or ask questions!
Just appreciate and enjoy it.
We got Snow last night, i don't
think it will be around very long.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

We didn't really have a winter, though some of you would say that we never do. ;)

What we did have was better than last year, when we had a couple of cold snaps and then it hit the 80s in mid-February and never looked back! We just had our first 80* day today, and it's supposed to be the same for the next couple of days, and then back into the low 70s.

Winter is a cherished time here, as it is just a few months' break from the heat! :D

Well.... Yesterday "should" have been the First of March ! Then we could have smugly said that "it came in like a Lion"... But...Nooooo... had to be the Extra day of February this year.

We received more sn*w yesterday and today than we got All winter combined ! What a jolt ! On the happy side...DH can play with his new sn*wblower, finally.

Wrong, Miss M. Winter isn't a few months break. Just a few weeks!!!
Well, this is true, as we'll usually have a cool snap around the end of October, and then the heat returns until at least mid-November. It is not a rare occurrence to have Thanksgiving and/or Christmas in the 80s, nor is it rare to have those temps in January and February, punctuated by cold snaps.

Gets too hot to grow apples, and too cold to grow bananas.

Winter never came here in VA, lots of birds seem to not bother flying away more-so year after year. Every thing is growing, too. Our grass never stopped, just slowed it's growth, lol.

ahh, it was spring here a month ago :p barely any frost for a month and pretty much no snow. currently its almost 50 here but it was warmer yesterday.

Well, it was spring like here, but we've had snow this week. Our pluot tree is blooming, poor confused thing. It is terribly windy outside and overcast as well. We got a slight sprinkling of rain last night, and there are huge clouds to the south, so hopefully we will get more today.

I am worried about the bugs the summer. It was not cold enough to kill insect eggs, was it?

i totally agree, i'm gonna have terrible problems with fruit flies in the trays and stuff. and all those moths that were in my hay last year are still in there as eggs, so i better use it up before it gets too warm

The bug eggs survive even really cold winters so I doubt it will have much impact. It's the illnesses and parasites that go rampant when we don't get a good hard freeze.

I'm thinking mosquitoes/muffle heads that breed in lake Erie, those kinds of bugs. Will they be more abundant?

I saw a few mosquitos toward the end of February. That's about 2 months ahead of when we normally start seeing them around here.

Wow! We usually get at least one good storm that gives us 4"- 6" but not this year. I don't mind, but the pups are disappointed. We have had snow in April, and one year there was snow in JULY so there is some hope yet.

The mosquitoes are out in force here already. I have to put on Swamp Gator if I'm going to be outside for any length of time. We've got the bug zapper going, but it'll take a couple of weeks to catch up.

The other day, we were doing a lot of work in preparation for redoing the chutes and gutters in the rabbitry. We sent the kids in for showers while we finished up. Dusk started to arrive as we got the last few bunnies back in, and the mosquitoes began to swarm.

It made me think of a scene in "The Incredibles", when Mr. Incredible's homing device activates, and those black tar things start shooting at him at a furious pace.
