I hear you. I have no clue at all either, and I wasn't sure he'd make it through the night when I saw him and the untouched food yesternight.. It looked bad and sounded bad.

Only thing I can think of is that he ate something toxic that made him feel sick and loose apetite.. and maybe caused the snot as well. He was trying to clean his feet and that liquid bandaid is probably not made from organic carrots.. maybe it was that. Or maybe something else, I have no answers either. But I'm happy I was too tired to take a permanent decission yesternight :)

I missed the liquid bandaid stuff...I can tell you first hand, that that stuff tastes NASTY.

I had to use it on my pup and ended up...well, it tastes really, really bad. That could be what caused it.

First time I used it his feet were wrapped.. then it seemed to have helped (probably because its antiseptic) and since its supposed to be a protective skin I used it when I removed the wraps, for that reason. :/

I doubt the liquid bandage or something he ate has anything at all to do with the snotty nose. :(

As you know, stress brings out sub clinical disease because the immune system gets spread too thin.

The snot does not necessarily indicate Pasteurella. It could be caused by something else. The only way to find out would be to swab his nasal cavity when snot is present and have a culture done.

But you have to ask yourself- if it is something more benign than Pasteurella, do you want even that in your herd?

Hopefully it was just a reaction to the peat or something else in the environment, but it is good that you have quarantined him.

I hear you.

I'm not going to cull him for a mysterious illness that cured itself over a day though :) I'd be more concerned over the sore hocks.. but as they appeared for a reason (nail trimming) and seem to heal just fine now when any fungal or external bacteria infection is dealt with, I'll let it pass for this time.

Once is nothing, twice is once too much..

__________ Sun Aug 18, 2013 3:36 am __________

Finally his gfeet are starting to look good!
In one the sore seemed almost gone, I had trouble finding it! On the other it was still hairless but it was pale and looked like tough skin rather than open wounds. It was also smaller. YAY!
