Okay, the more I think about this the more I get confused...

One of my angora pairing I like to do is my REW doe to my Smoked Pearl Buck. I've gotten all sorts of colors that way, seal, chin, ermine, pearl, and mainly rew. So what I can't figure out is why (_ _ cc_ _) and (aa B_ cchl _ dd E_ create that many colors. I've been able to narrow it down that mom is actually (Aa B_ cc Dd _e) and dad is a (aa B_ cchl c dd Ee), presuming I'm correct, but then how am I getting both chinchilla, shaded, AND Rew??

I'll attach a pic of him, but she looks like the avatar (actually the avatar is a pic of her mum, but they are identical).

I have only been dabbling in the genetics for a couple months, so I think I need to call for backup on this one!! :)

The buck is

aa B_ cchd c dd Ee

= Self Blue Chinchilla

It's the only way you'd get chinchilla and your shaded are likely Sallanders = aa __ cchd_ __ ee

I just googled sallander to see what it looks like island it looks like someone hacked into my computer and stole a pic of my 'pearl' kit!! So, do sallanders come in the basic colors, (I.e. black, blue,choc,lilac) or are they just the grey like my kit was? And if I get more 'blue self chin' or self chin, how do I tell its not smoked pearl or seal? Can you only tell by breeding?

Glad to have his color nailed down tho as I've been fighting to figure it out, and not even a local judge could put her finger in it for the breeder I bought him from!!!

Yes, Sallander can come in all the colours that the shaded varieties do.

As you know, telling the colours apart is difficult so getting unexpected colours in the nest box is the most common way.

You know the genotype of theses rabbits so they won't have seals or sables, if you breed to others you won't know without test breeding them.

The order of dominance is
C_ = full colour
cchd_ = dark shaded AKA chinchilla
cchl_ = light shaded AKA shaded
ch_ = himilayan AKA California marked AKA pointed white
cc = red eye white

So one of the color kits I always get looks identical to a seal, but if that's not possible would it just be a black sallander or a black self chinchilla? I can try to find a picture to attach, but it may have to wait till I get home as I'm on my phone right now.

__________ Wed Aug 21, 2013 12:12 pm __________
