I don't know how well you can see it, he's kind of freaked out so I didn't want to pull him out again.

My little rescue. He was in a back bedroom of a house, and was being forgotten a fair bit. He's in good weight though, doesn't feel bony, and is really friendly, so the owner obviously realized she wasn't going to have time for him before it became a problem. But his one eye is missing a HUGE patch of hair in front of it. No wet fur, no snots, the other eye looks perfectly fine.

Obviously he's quarantined, especially with me concerned he's going to start blowing snot, that he's got pasteurella. I don't know whom he came from(breeder, not pet store), but I know there's at least one breeder around here who's selling buns with pasteurella, that it's gotten into a couple pet stores in the area(through buns sold to them), and that's enough for me to be on edge about it.

His (tentative) name is Mudpie - he came with the name Cadbury, which I hate. He's a mini lop-angora-dwarf-lionhead.

I don't think I have any ACV right now(don't hurt me!). I will definitely send my dad out to get some. So it doesn't scream pasteurella to you guys?

Not necessarily. Remember when I had wet dewlap? I spread it around, it's athletes foot fungus, and I had the same symptoms in some others, ACV cleared it up in a week or two.

Hard to say what the problem was... but I'd sure keep him isolated! Be very careful not to get ACV in the eye when you treat the surrounding area. It would sting horribly.

Q tip! Or you'll have an angry bunny.

I was thinking cotton ball, or cotton pad. Or maybe a paint brush.

Definitely going to give it a try, and hope that clears it up. Poor boy, he's such a sweet little guy, and I've tortured him today. Put him in a car, got him home, clipped his nails, poked around at his eye and in his ears. Now I'm going to paint his face with ACV. He's never going to trust me again!!

I hope he clears up right away, he is a hansom looking rabbit.
I really like his colors. I'm glad he has a better home now.

runny eyes is a sign of pasturella, quite often the only sign. I would be quite cautious with this lad and perhaps think on subjecting him to some minor stressors to see if you can replicate the causal factors.

Persistent runny eyes can be a sign of tooth issues (i just learned this while preparing for my bunny class last night). :)

Well he has no discharge yet, so here's hoping it was from something else! He was pretty stressed today, so hopefully it presents sooner rather than later. The eye is dry and has been since I picked him up. It might be a little swollen, but I haven't gotten him to sit still long enough to check!

----

Spoke too soon. Eye is red rimmed and half closed. Clear discharge. No sneezing or snot, other eye is fine. I'm giving him saline solution in his eye, to see if that helps. My arms still burn from the scrubbing :p. He's off in his own little room, and I change clothes and wash well. To be honest, I'm hoping he shows symptoms now, if he is going to show them at all.

that's no good.

So I found out that shortly before I picked him up, the woman had sprayed the room with febreeze. I wonder if he got a drop in his one eye.

Does the dreaded p word show with swollen irritated eyes? Or is it just the white discharge?

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if the febreeze is what caused it... But if it is, it should clear within a couple days. If not something else is most likely the problem.
I have a buck that is very sensitive just to the the smell of his cage (and he loves to spray unfortunately!). His eyes often look red-rimmed, but they clear whenever his cage is clean and scent-free.

Yeah she said she often sprayed the room with febreeze. She never noticed any sneezing or snots, no laboured breathing or anything like that. She says she had him out often as well.

The eye is less swollen today but still more red rimmed than the other one. Still a touch of clear discharge.

hoping his eye clears up, he sure is a nice rabbit, but as you said it is better now than latter.
sending good vibes his way.

Hang in there, BH... that Febreeze is nasty stuff.

What I have found with rabbit eye problems is that when you try to help by cleaning it, it sometimes makes the problem worse. This has been a significant problem lately in my rabbitry and in my case I think it may be pasteurella related. I know something is not quite right down there in the colony, but have not yet been able to pin it down. My rabbitry is closed, so I can take some time to figure it out.

I flushed it once with the saline and have since left it alone. I had him out before I left and he was racing about and binkying... He doesn't act like a sick bun!

He is down in the computer room, and my dad says he always talks to him and sticks his finger in. I have discovered he is Afraid of the dark, and thumps at lights out!

He is a very sweet boy. I hate calling him a rescue, but I did get him for free from Kijiji, from a woman who said she had no time for him... He wasn't underfed, or abused, he just sometimes had to wait a little longer than ideal for food/water, and probably didn't get as much attention as he would have liked.

His eye is so much better. Swelling is gone, weeping is gone. There was a little tear build up in the corner where the hair is gone. He was racing around his cage in excitement when he saw me coming, I took him out and let him rip around while I was cleaning the cage. The dog followed him, I think to protect him from the cats.

I really have to learn to not freak out so much about eyes, though.
